Speak for yourself. Thank, you very much.

Also, from the review:

Overall, though, I am not about to say “Don’t buy this release,” but rather “Weigh up the facts and buy with caution.” I hope that this overview of the situation gives people all the information they need to make their own decision about whether to pick up a copy or not. Myself, I hope that someone some day comes along and does this masterpiece the justice it deserves. Until then, however, we shall simply have to make do with the variety of discs available on the market, each with their own individual strengths and weaknesses.
That pretty much sums up the facts about this version. Again, this is NOT the definitive nor the ultimate version... and certainly NOT a great transfer. To state otherwise, would be naive and ludicrous.

Arh, for the love of god! We are not talking about transfers, Dane. We are talking about subtitles. We all know that you don't like the AWE DVD by now, but please, it's starting to feel like a echo chamber in here.

To DirkUSA: I'm glad you finally got the answer that you were looking for with regards to the subtitle options available on the AWE disc. For what it's worth I sincerely hope that a "perfect" release of PROFONDO ROSSO does come along one day. I'd be first in line to buy it.

Well, the whole thread is dedicated to AWE release! Not just the subtitle issues.

That said, subtitles actually do happen to be available on the Director´s Cut, but, mind I say it, very clumsily done, though, still NOT containing full English subtitles for the Italian version.

However, a great movie that still needs to get a proper release that it deserves, which I´m sure we will see some day.

For those in this thread still on the fence about buying this version, you really ought to read this review:

Wait. You people are getting upset because it doesn't play English subtitles over the English language dub?

No, we are discussing the English default subtitle option for the long Italian version.

You see, the AWE disc is a 2 disc release with two versions of the film on each platter. The complete Italian Version (126 min) and the shorter, restored International Cut with complete English dub (105 min). To quote from Troy Howarth's Avmaniacs review (which cracksky have just provided a link for in the above):

"The full-length Italian cut includes Italian mono and 5.1 Italian tracks, as well as the English mono track. As on the AB DVD, the sections never dubbed into English revert to Italian with removable English subtitles. The shorter cut is presented in English only, with both the original mono track and a 5.1 remix. The various soundtracks are in very good condition, really showing off Goblin’s thumping score to its best advantage, but purists will want to stick with the mono tracks."

Hope this helps clear any further confusion
