Rent? (recent Sony "Hot Ticket" Broadway recording)

I've heard many rumors about this being released on DVD. (And surely Blu-Ray!) With the holidays fast-approaching, I'm wondering if anyone knows anything concrete?

Here's a DVD Talk thread from the theatrical release:

And if you don't know what the heck I'm talking about:

According to postings on the Broadway World forums, some cast members have confirmed that interviews, etc. were done to be used as "extras" for an eventual DVD release - but nothing has been confirmed. Supposedly there will be another six theatrical showings some time before the end of the year, and hopefully at that time news about a DVD will become official.

Really? Six more? Do they plan on advertising any of these? I don't see how these are making money, even at nearly $20 a ticket, if no one knows about them! I went to see it on opening night and there were maybe thirty people in the theater! The theater we were in easily had room for several hundred people.

Good news!

Sony is releasing this on SD and Blu-Ray on February 3rd. More details when it's announced on 11/24...

I wish more broadway shows would be released on DVD for those of us who can't get to New York to enjoy them.

I hope they do the final performance of Hairspray (which is closing early next year) on the big screen.

glad to hear the final performance of Rent will be on home video, and specifically on blu - hooray!

I'll second that! I love Broadway stuff, but have to settle for waiting for film versions (which I ALSO love). The only ones that come out my way are horrible touring versions, which are just one step above dinner theater!
