I'm thinking of buying a pair of Sony MDR-DS5100 headphones. I have an odd shaped room that doesn't lend itself to a nice HT system (organized on a diagonal) and most of my family is asleep when I watch movies so the headphone approach looks attractive (and cheaper too!).
Has anyone tried these? Do they give realistic directional effects and theater quality sound? Any advice on where to pick them up for the best price?

Hmm... Crutchfield has them for the low low price of
$499 (!)
wow.

Of course, you could just spend another $149 a chair and outfit everyone with a pair, which would probably be bitchin'

I don't own them but a friend of mine owns them and he loves them. According to him they do a real good job especially for those situations where the use of speakers is not possible. I have not had a chance to try them yet my self though. They are not the same as using speakers but they do a pretty good job.
