I got this DVD set with one disc missing and 2 copies of another - now what?

I picked up S1 and S2 of Dead Like Me as a blind buy, but didn't get around to actually opening them until several months later.

As it turned out, S1 has no disc two, but two copies of disc three. S2 is fine.

Now, it's too late to exchange it through the retailer - it didn't help that they sent me an email that apparently got flagged and spam while I thought I was waiting for a return label; by the time I figured it out it was too late twice over.

Anyway, I thought there would be a way to report it to the company (MGM), but both their official site and the show's site don't seem to contain any way to do this. An email to the webmaster went unanswered.

Is there anything I can do?

Frankly, this made me think about stopping buying DVDs.

I had this happen to me once, when I bought One Tree Hill from target, I went home to open it, and it was missing the first disc. No big deal I just returned it for another one. As for opening it several months later I don't know what to tell you.

Had a very similar thing happen to me with season 1 of the Andy Griffith Show. It was missing a certain disc, while having 2 copies of another. I tried calling (believe it was Paramount) without any success. I finally typed up a letter including a picture of the multiple discs and sent it to the studio. In less than a week, I had a completely new set at my front door. I was frustrated at first, but impressed with the quick response to my letter.

Bring it back to the retailer and state that you received it as a gift and would like to exchange it for another copy.

I've done that many a time when I've had DVDs that were defective in some way and I hadn't discovered it until months or years later. I have no moral qualms about doing it either. The retailer will return the defective product to the manufacturer. They don't lose anything.

This is why I always open my discs shortly after I buy them, no more than maybe two days later, tops.

BTW, Fox distributes MGM's titles now. Try contacting them.
