I was taking a drink of Diet Coke when I read that, then I sprayed it all over my keyboard from laughing. Man. I've been trying to cut down this month too. I'm also hoping once my girlfriend and her son move in with me in the next few months, that'll lead to a lot more movie watching.

Don't think I'll officially join you all just yet, but I saw the bump and figured I'd mention my new goal.
After years of buying a heck of a lot more than what I watch, I decided to come up with plan to actually watch what I own.
For now, my plan is to watch one "new" movie a day, on average. This will include 1 or 2 a week in the theater, and the rest from my unopened DVD collection. I'm sort of starting with the A's, and hope to just slowly trudge thru. I have found some excellent films that I wish I hadn't waited to see. Adventures of Robin Hood, Amelie, Best in Show, An Angel at my Table, ....
As I move on down the alphabet, I'll watch new DVDs of the "done" letters as soon as I buy them. I will be caught up in 4.5 to 5 years. Then I'll have about 600 seasons of TV to watch. At three seasons a month, that project will take me 23 years factoring in new purchases and keeping up with films.
I'll come back and update this post in 28 years when I'm all caught up.
Edit to add: Decided to join you, full stat post starting in May.
Started the one a day plan on April 22nd and watched 9 "new to me" DVDs in April. So -9 for this month. This is of maybe 1000 to watch.

I've had a goal about halfway through this month to not let my net total be more than 800. I refuse to restrain my new movie habits in any way while doing this. The only way to win is to watch a lot of movies.
I'm right on the edge but lately I've been watching enough to have it under by the end of the month.
GTA4 coming out tomorrow won't help me any.

My goal at the moment is to make SOME progress each month. I actually passed up some DVDs earlier today at a store because I knew if I picked 'em up, I might not end up with a negative total for April.
Of course, I will admit that I thought to myself "I'll have to swing back by this place later in the week so they can count towards my May total."

I wish this wasn't so long, otherwise it would be sig worthy.I've never really had a "goal" for watching the titles I own, but I think it is just to slowly continue to increase my percent of watched DVDs. Over the last 2 years I have gone from 47% to 52%. So, if I keep that trend, I'll check back in 19 years
. But really, do I ever want to be at 100%? No, that would be boring having everything in my collection that I've actually watched. I think maybe having ~100 unwatched titles would be an ultimate goal.
