Heard the Kanye West remix on the radio yesterday. It's literally a slowed-down version of the song with Kanye going "uh uh uh" in the background.

I got it last night at Wal-Mart (w/ the DVD) and listened to it today. I've got to echo everyone's sentiments and say that the remixes are pretty much crap (although, at least Akon tries to do something different). They'll be gone from my iPod when I get home from work. (An aside: I really wish will.i.am would get back to the sound of the first two BEP albums, before the group turned to crap.)

But it was good to hear an album that I haven't listened to in its entirety in quite a long time.

Here's that EW review I mentioned earlier in this thread: http://www.ew.com/ew/article/0,,20177107,00.html

I think it they should have made this as a two-disc set. Leave disc one as the original album, and for disc two feature outttakes and demos from the Thriller era, as well as the remixes released on the original 12" singles and possibly some live recordings from the era (like Billie Jean at the Motown 25). If they had made this a time capsule of the era and kept it to stuff that was actually aroound then, they might have had a pretty cool package.

I agree totally. I would've bought what you just mentioned.

I just wonder if MJ realizes that most people who owned Thriller in 1983 can care less about most of todays rap artists. At least when The Stones remixed Sympathy For The Devil and David Bowie remixed Fame, they had the common sense to realize that people who originally bought Beggar's Banquet and Young Americans might not want hip hop remixes of those songs, and released them as singles instead of on remasters of those original classic records.

Ha ha! I picked it up from Wal-Mart, too, and the DVDs must've been sitting in a warehouse for quite a while. The DVD has a "Playstation 2 compatible!" sticker on it (the blue one in the picture).

Was it Michael's or his label, Sony's decision?

Considering its status as a catalog release, the new 25th anniversary reissue of Michael Jackson's "Thriller" (Epic/Legacy) was ineligible to chart on The Billboard 200 this week. But it does bow at No. 1 on the Top Pop Catalog Albums tally after selling 166,000. The project includes reworked "Thriller" tracks by Akon, Kanye West, Fergie and will.i.am.

I almost bought this release because... well... because it's Thriller.

But after reading this thread, I realized that the Special Edition from 2001 that I own is the better buy. I like the zombie cover, but it wasn't worth double (actually triple) dipping for. It's a shame too because with a few "decent" extras, I would have bit.

Now, if they would have incuded "The Making of the Thriller" video, I would have paid a decent amount more for it.
