This isn't much help, but my A2 did that to me a couple times too after I updated the firmware, and I just unplugged it, plugged it back in and turned it back on and it worked fine - also try turning it on without a disc...

Ditto the above.
I had a couple of freezes before updating firmware.
I had one the day after updating, but have been good since.
Unplug and restart with no disk is the best advice.
Recheck the update, then unplug and restart again.
Keep in mind, an HD-DVD player is basically a single function computer. It really shouldn't have it's plug pulled, unless you absolutely have to.

???Toshiba A2 Question???
My current setup:
Toshiba A2 HD-DVD
RCA D52W20 DVI-HDTV
Internal DSL modem internet connection on our HP Pavillion computer
NetGear wireless router
Do i benefit any from using a S-Video cable over the regular component video jack? should i have both plugged in?
Also, what do I need to be able to enjoy the internet features on my HD-DVDs?
Do i need additional hardware and, well basically...just what the hell do i do to get my new A2 setup properly for internet???
I hate to admit my ignorance on this stuff, but I'm absolutely clueless!
ANY help at all to ANY of these stupid questions will be greatly appreciated.

Other than updating firmware (which you might want to do using the ISO method if you're comfortable burning disks), the connectivity is there in case discs offer any internet-interactive features.

^i had no problems with updating firmware, that was done immediately out of the box before i even plugged in any cables. My question is how to configure the settings properly and if i need to buy another router specifically for my new A2?
HDMI cable isn't an option for me, as the model TV i have is an older one that doesn't support HDMI, it is DVI instead. I'm using a direct player to tv connection...no separate AV receiver.

I'm using component (red, green, blue RCA cables) with my A2 and the picture is excellent. The only issue with this setup is that you will not get DVD upscaling. You can purchase an HDMI to DVI cable on the internet. Monoprice is a decent online cable site with great prices.

To add another question, is there another way to upgrade the firmware w/o using a connection? I sent in the paperwork to get the updates mailed to me but I really don't want to wait that long...
