Definitive List of Double Dips with Features not carried over

- DVD only
- Region 1 only
- features changes only, not audio or video changes
- no need to list rated/unrated double dips, as they are obviously different (although I will list them when they are odd or significant feature changes)
- no need to list upgrades of Criterions, as with few exceptions, Criterion special features are not ported to other company releases
- please try to post in my below format to make it easier to cut and paste

"Upgrade" title - features not carried over

Alexander Final Cut - loses all special features from the first two sets, so, sadly, you must own all three editions

-"Making of" -featurette (from "Alien3")
-"Making of" -featurette (from "Alien: Resurrection")
-"The Alien Legacy" -documentary (from the "bonus disc")
++AMC's "The Alien Saga" (This wasnīt on the previous box set, but itīs currently available on R1 DVD from "Image Entertainment"). Note, that the "Interview with James Cameron" (from "Aliens") IS on "The Alien Quadrilogy" -box set, and can be found under the "Aliens: laserdisc archive" (divided in 2 parts)

Original post below for history's sake
Spoiler:
Is there already a thread for this? I did a quick search and couldn't find anything.

Is there a need or desire? Personally, I would love a one-stop list to see if the "upgrade" carries over all the special features.

DVDcompare and DVDbeaver do an ok job on many titles, but a list would be easier to navigate.

This would be just a list for special feature whores only, and ignore the transfer/audio considerations.

Can anyone verify that the new Wild Bunch Director's Edition does not carry over all the trailers or the production notes?

What about Toy Story 2? It appears that the older has shorts, outtakes, and a preview not carried over to the newer 2 disc release.

Toy Story I and II did have the shorts 'Luxo Jr.' and 'Tin Toy' not ported over to the newer DTS versions.

off the top of my head, I think there were some extras on the first edition of 'Remember the Titans' that didn't make it to the second, Director's cut' edition.

Do you have any idea how giant this list will be?
How about doing a list of double dips where ALL the features were carried over instead...... Now THAT's a rarity

The Terminator 2 Ultimate Edition/Extreme Editions contain literally nothing in common with each other -- new transfer, entirely new set of features. The Extreme Edition has Cameron/William Wisher commentary, a couple of new docs, while the original DVD has an extensive gallery of docs and mini-featurettes, including deleted scenes.

Ghostbusters loses the "live" commentary angle, a fantastic trivia track, theatrical trailers, and probably even some other stuff I don't know about (the upgrade is the "Double Feature" set).

Mallrats loses the bits of picture-in-picture video audio commentary. I don't remember if it loses anything else.

Sin City loses the 11-minute making-of featurette that is the only feature on the original DVD. I believe the same interview footage is chopped up and used on the 2-disc though.

The Matrix movies, I believe, lose all of their original features. I don't think anything from the 1 and 2-disc sets is ported to the Ultimate Matrix box set. In any case, the major loss is an audio commentary on the original film.

Tremors 4 loses a gallery of featurettes when you buy it as part of the Tremors Attack Pack Franchise Collection DVD.

Superbit editions of Snatch lose the audio commentary.

Candyman, Happy Gilmore, Titanic, The Big Lebowski, and Ghostbusters II lose their trailer(s). Lebowski also loses a fullscreen transfer.

I don't think information about Superbits is really necessary, do you? I mean, that's the whole point of them (supposedly).

You can add The Bourne Identity to the list as well.

I'm beginning to realize that.

I was hoping that the replies would be something like, "we already have a thread, here is the link", or "this other website does this already", or "this is a passion of mine, can I be the threadkeeper?"

I really would like a site/thread that does this, but with limitations like I put in the first thread.

- only special features matter, not the audio or video (that would be a huge list)
- only obvious "upgrades" like supposed deluxe editions need be listed; if a title has multiple releases from multiple companies we can leave those comparisons to another discussion

But you may be right. Perhaps this is too large of a chore......

DVDCompare does a superb job of breaking down every release of a given title on DVD, although you have to search title by title to compare. In other words, there's no master list.

It is a great site, I prefer it over DVDBeaver, but it is too expansive as it includes all regions and more than just special features. But perhaps someday it will have a good filter/search function that can replace this thread.

Edit to add: I can't believe it took me 8 years to finally try the multiple quote reply.

The Boogie Nights 2 disc edition doesn't have the doc on john Holmes that the previous release had.

The first printing of Seven Samurai Criterion collection has the restoration demo that was eliminated in the further printings and editions.

Some features, including the DTS, were not included in the Rambo Ultimate Edition re-releases.

The Bourne Identity explosive edition didn't carry over the director's comentary from the first edition.

The original DVD did not have a Holmes doc. I believe the laserdisc did though.

They have recently added a filter, allowing the user to select/de-select whichever versions he wishes to compare.

A lot of special editions lose the original commentary track in favor of a new one. Off the top of my head....

Hellboy - the upgrade from the 2 disc to the 3 disc eliminated the commentary from director Guillermo del Toro and co-executive producer Mike Mignola, along with the feature "From the Den" Hellboy recommends... Gerald McBoing animated shorts

Dodgeball:
According to Amazon.com, the unrated version includes an "all new commentary" by writer-director Rawson Marshall Thurber and actors Ben Stiller and Vince Vaughn. The same 3 had a commentary track on the original release, but I don't know if it is the same or all new as Amazon says it is.

Believe it or not, the very nice SPACEBALLS CE left off the vintage featurette that was included on the original version.
