Sleuth remake '08

Wait! Before you cry murder, it might not be that bad. It's directed by Kenneth Branagh, and stars Michael Caine and Jude Law. It's currently filming, here's the info.

Early buzz is that a third actor, a complete unknown, steals the show in the second half. We'll see.

I'm still going to cry murder. I see no reason for it at all.

I saw this the other day, and was suprised. Though at least Michael Caine is back, albeit in a different role (or the other role I should say). I'm not expecting much, but we'll see...

I am dubious about this. I LOVE the original.....but Michael Caine remakes never tend to be good. I hope this will be better.

Also with regards to the unknown actor stealing the second half of the movie remake....very funny.

I was looking over Michael Caine's RottenTomatoes page and just noticed that this Sleuth remake already has a number of reviews listed. Right now it's sitting at 50% - six fresh and six rotten:

The original was an all-time classic tour de force and certainly one of my favourite movies, with both Olivier and Caine at the top of their form, plus a fantastic script. Haven't seen the remake yet, but am intrigued, though just why it had to be remade is beyond me!

No way on earth it can better or even compare to the original. At least it will be more interesting than a lot of remakes. The original had a good plot, good acting and was well written....hopefully these aspects will remain.

I saw this is in Toronto. I haven't seen the orginal - but based on everyone's comments it sounds like I should.

I like Jude Law, Michael Caine and Kenneth Branagh but I really disliked this film. I felt the first third was very good, the film does a good job of setting an atmosphere and tone that keeps you involved but act 2 and 3 were awful bordering on insulting to the audience.

No way it tops the original. I'm willing to give it a chance though.

I saw this last night and have mixed feelings. It was rewarding watching Caine and Law attempt to best their opponent in this game of wits. However, the overall approach to the story does not match up with the original - which was far more effective, imo.
