The Passion of the Christ: Definitive Edition - Due 2/6/07

Look for 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment to release The Passion of the Christ: Definitive Edition on February 6th, 2007. The two-disc special edition will feature an anamorphic widescreen transfer, Aramaic Dolby Digital 5.1 and DTS Surround tracks and English subtitles. Bonus materials have yet to be revealed, so stay tuned for more on that. Retail will be $26.98.

Didn't Lionsgate hold the DVD distributions rights for this film?

Anyway, great news. I do hope that it offers a commentary by Mel Gibson and Jim Caveziel.

The commentary could be the perfect time for Mel to "atone."

Eh, I'll have to wait and see what those extras are before I care. Actual in-depth 'making-of' material or historical stuff could be worthwhile. Random bible thumping and/or weepy featurettes about the film's 'impact' on the other hand...

I would love a drunken, candid commentary from Mel and his dad...

How about that cut scene that upset the jewish community.
The scene Mel cut to ease things, it's where in the movie a jew says something like a curse will be on all of us. This scene is where the crowd picks Barabbas over Jesus.

I think that scene is already there, and they just dropped the subtitles instead.

YES! I knew if I waited long enough this would happen. I don't believe in God but the film was great. Can't wait. Here's hoping for a commentary or two.

Oh, Jesus.

I knew Mel would renig on the promise of a featureless DVD.

I will probably end up buying this, but this is nothing more than selling out.

If I boycotted every director or actor that I disagreed with personally, my movie collection would be pretty small.

I thought there was mention even before the first release came out that there was definitely going to be an SE down the road. In fact, it was going to come out much sooner (rumored Easter '05 or '06).

This is the third edition of the film. Nice to know it's going to be the definitive one. Seriously, what replay value does this film have in any version?

I don't recall any releases after the initial one.

Terminator 3 similarly stated that there would be a later more complete SE even before the initial release, but in that case still nothing since then.

Quite alot, I'd imagine, for its fans. Probably an annual Easter viewing or whatever... I mean, it's not like people didn't already know the story watching for the *first* time...

You're painting the situation rather lightly. This isn't about disagreeing with someone's political party of choice, or their stance on a certain issue. It's about Gibson being, despite his claims to the contrary, a racist ass.

That would his stance on a certain issue.

As much as I dislike Mel's stance on this "certain issue", I am tired of seeing it dragged out every time one of his movies gets discussed. Can't we just agree that it's up to the individual to decide whether or not they want to support racist ass-hats and leave it at that?

Any chance of having James Caviezel doing commentary in-character as Jesus?
