as usual, dvds are a pain in the ass to open - especially the stupid sticker thingies they put over the top and often the sides. why they make them like this, i have no idea but it sucks.

anyways i opened a dvd last night and the sticker didnt come off cleanly and it left sticky residues on the cover. anyone know a good way to get that off cuz its annoying.

I use Goo-Gone. It will take it off easily. Be sure to remove the cover art first to prevent getting any Goo-Gone on it.

I just use some rubbing alcohol...cleans it up real nice

I usually use the sticker to get the sticky residue off. I know it sounds wierd, but it works. Just grab a small section of the sticker and re-apply it on top of where the residue is and pull it off again. It will take some of the excess glue with it. Keep doing this until your cover is clean.

The best thing to use is basic lighter fluid. It will not stain paper and removes all residues. It's been used by book dealers for years. Goo-Gone is petrolium based and can stain....

This is what I usually do as well. If the sticky residue is really stubborn then I bust out the Goo Gone (a marvelous product). Carcosa's right too - lighter fluid works just as well as Goo Gone (that is, the kind for refilling a cigarette lighter, not the kind for starting your barbeque). Goo Gone smells a lot better though, imo.

I use Skin-So-Soft bath oil by Avon. It does a great job and it leaves quite the pleasant aroma on the case.

To keep from getting any residue in the first place, the quicker you peel those things off, the less residue they leave behind - I used to peel them off slow and steady, and get all kinds of gunk left behind - now, I just yank them off as quick as I can - no residue.

I've never had Goo-Gone leave any stains and I use it all the time. Maybe if you don't use enough then you wind up just dry-rubbing the sticky into the plastic, but certainly Goo-Gone itself doesn't create any stains.

Would some of these suggestions apply to the "exclusive" Best Buy box art? I don't know what kinda glue these guys have switched to, but it's a bitch to get off.

Yeah..My Hills Have Eyes BB exclusive still has some residue..I used alcohol, may have to try some zippo fluid. I'll post again if i find something that works.

I think WB and Fox may have also switched glue recently. Their stickers no longer come off clean. Do we really need 3 security stickers now on these DVDs selling for less than $10???

I've used two different types of Goo Gone. The kind that I used was so strong that it would take the paint off of the artwork on a DVD, the case art, slip cover, and just about anything else.

The second kind that I used, after a few horrible experiences with the first, is one that I still use to this day. You can put the stuff on virtually anything, and while it'll remove what you want it to, it wont damage the item you are trying to clean at all. I've never once had it damage a DVD, or anything else, in any way.

The Best Buy version just has a 'Blood" cover...kinda like Saw. The sticker residue is still on the plastic. May try some Goo Gone......
