Brett Scalions leaves Fuel

From AA.com

Fuel is reporting that lead singer Brett Scallions has left the band. Main song writer and lyricist and guitarist Carl Ball and the remaining members are currently holding auditions for a new lead singer to replace Scallions. The band plans to record their fourth album to be released later this year on Epic records.

"Brett's a great guy, a long time friend, and we wish him well." says Bell. "It was a very amicable split, we've had some great times and we will miss him."

Scallions joined Fuel in 1994 after signing a record contract with Epic Records. The band released their platinum selling debut album "Sunburn" in 1994 which featured the hit singles "Shimmer" and "Bittersweet". The group released two more albums with Scallions, 2000's "Something Like Human" and 2003's "Natural Selection". The band has sold over 4 million records worldwide to date.

-----------

I actually really like this band. He had such a distinctive voice, I can't imagine this band without him. Although he didn't do much (he didn't write the music or the lyrics), he contributed greatly to the bands overall sound. They still plan on recording this spring for a fall release, so I'll reserve judgement until then, but I can't imagine it will be as good.

Maybe they'll do RockStar: Fuel!!

That's crappy news. I really think Brett's vocals really made the band. Plus, he was so energetic on stage. I was a Fuel junkie for awhile and saw them nearly 30 times and I was never dissappointed. I've actually enjoyed all their records, especially Sunburn and Something Like Human. I'm curious to see what Carl will do, but I'm not sure if the band can recover from losing both their vocalist and drummer.

Some bad info in that article. Suburn was released in 1998 not 1994.

This news sucks. Fuel used to be my favorite band a few years ago. By far the band that I had seen the most live. Their albums were ok, but their live shows had a ton of energy and were a lot of fun. The Porcelain EP was my favorite. It had more of a raw feel to it. They kicked out Kevin Miller the drummer back a few months ago. He wasn't the original drummer but had been with them through all their major label releases. Fuel is dead to me, whatever continues on will not be the same.

I'm pretty bummed out about this too. Fuel was one of my favorite "new" rock bands, primarily on the strength of Scallions singing. Hopefully if it is an amicable split, he'll realize he screwed up and come back to the group.
