Looking for comments on HMV Powell-Powell Pressburger 9-Disc Set
Anybody own The HMV Powell-Pressburger 9-disc set and care to comment on the quality? I'm not having any luck finding reviews. It seems like a steal for 29.99 pounds.

Just a heads up on the new HMV international policies, as discussed in this thread:
http://forum.dvdtalk.com/showthread.php?t=442158
The price is without VAT already (previously, prices shown were reduced by approx. 17% for shipment outside the EU) and their new price structure for shipping outside Europe is GBP3.75 per disc. If I'm reading all this correctly, that means this 29.99 pounds set will cost another 33.75 pounds for shipping to the U.S.
I used to like HMV a lot ...
Too bad, there are several titles in that set that I've never seen, and would have otherwise been interested in getting.

Thanks Marty. That shipping policy is ridiculous.

I just created a new account and did a mock order up to submitting payment. VAT was not added to the 29.99 price and shipping was a total of 3.75 pounds. The shipping address was to the United States. They may have revised their policies. Anyone care to confirm?

I purchased the Powell / Pressburger 9 DVD set a week or so ago from HMV. The shipping was, indeed, 3.75 pounds. Currently the set is on sale for 17.99 pounds, bringing the total to something around $40 shipped to the USA. Definitely a bargain. The DVDs are in one fold-out, not individual cases. I liked this in terms of saving shelf space, although it's a little inconvenient as one disc overlays the second one on each fold-out page (you need to remove the top one to view the one underneath). An excellent bargain, though.

For the curious the 9 DVD Box Set Contains The Following Powell & Pressburger Films:
A Matter Of Life & Death
The Red Shoes
The Life & Death Of Colonel Blimp
A Canterbury Tale
I Know Where I'm Going
49th Parallel
Battle Of The River Plate
Ill Met by Moonlight
They're A Weird Mob
They are petty light on the extras but I don't expect much for less than $4.50 a film. DVDBeaver reviews several of these and rates them all pretty highly including giving the Carlton transfer for the Red Shoes a nudge over the Criterion disc.

I received my set from HMV yesterday, a pretty impressive 5-day turnaround all together. No floaters, broken bits, or even the slightest ding on the packaging.
It is indeed sparse compared to many similar collections, much like Arrow's moderately more expensive Eric Rohmer box: no inserts or booklets, and virtually nothing concerning the contents of the discs (I was glad to see running times, at least, printed on the DVDs themselves). Still, for the price - $40 for nine movies, a few of which equal if not best their Criterion counterparts in the transfer department - is one of the best bargains I've come across.
