Commentary won't turn off?

I just received a used DVD and I can't get the Commentary to turn off. I tried going into the Special Features and there is no "On / Off" option on this one. I tried clicking on it and anything else I could think of. Does anyone have any suggestions that I could try to fix this so that I can watch the movie without the Commentary??? Or do some DVD's break down where sometimes the Commentary gets stuck and it can't be fixed???

Have you tried using your remote to switch audio tracks while it plays? I'm pretty sure all players allow this and then you can select among any of the available tracks on the disc. If there is only one track then make sure this used DVD is not a bootleg.

If worse comes to worse, you could always put on subtitles and deal with it.

The Title is

The DVD is, "El Mariachi / Desperado". It is the "El Mariachi" that is doing the Commentary. Desperao is on the other side of the disc.

Try going to the audio options section and choosing the 5.1 or stereo soundtrack.

Huh? Is this the old double-feature release? If so, why on Earth would you get that one. The new Special Editions come on their own disc in two separate keepcases.

In any case, cycling through the audio option on your remote control should fix the problem, unless it's one of those where the commentary is on a totally different track than the regular audio tracks. Why the disc is defaulting to the commentary track is anybody's guess. Have you tried ejecting it and restarting it?

Yep, that worked. I was able to turn it off with the Audio on the Remote Control. Thanks...

I seem to remember my player defaulting to the commentary on that movie since the commentary was in English but the original audio was Spanish.

Glad it worked out ok - I've never had a DVD default to an alternate soundtrack/commentary, but every now and then subtitles have a mind of their own and are there when the movie starts - fortunately easy to get rid of 'em.

I think some players have a setting where you can set the default audio language (which would cause the english track to play in this case).

It happens for me as well. I guess it's the way the disc is authored.

Re: Commentary won't turn off?

I'm having a similar porblem with a dvd, I lent them to somebody, but when I got them back, the audio commentary won't turn off, there's an on/off option on the dvd menu, but it doesn't have any effect whichever is highlighted, I've tried the subtitles button on the remote, but it just comes up 'subtitles unavailable'. the dvd is unwatchable as it is, and it's two out of the four series that has been effected. Any help would be apprecated, because I can't really afford to re-buy

Nothing the person who borrowed the DVD did could have caused the problem you're having.

Subtitles have nothing to with your problem. You want the audio button.

And rebuying the DVD won't fix it either. If the DVD worked correctly before and doesn't now, it's user error or maybe a player problem.

Re: Commentary won't turn off?

Are you still having this problem? I had this problem on 'A Clockwork Orange' so I know how you feel/felt. Bring up the DVD menu and look at audio, switch it to audio 1, that should fix the problem you/you're had/having.

Re: Commentary won't turn off?

On certain players with certain discs, I'll get the subtitles by default and have to manually turn them off.

Re: Commentary won't turn off?

I've always set the default audio and subtitle languages on my players to Zulu- since I've never seen a single disc that actually includes that language, it'll almost always default to playing with audio track 1 and subtitles off.

Re: Commentary won't turn off?

VERY SIMPLE → Go "SCENES" → Then go to the LAST SCENE, usually Credits, and let movie play out to the end on Fast Forward → THEN START MOVIE ALL OVER → Fixes it for me. It’s horrible hearing some idiot’s voice talking over the movie. It’s similar to someone in the same room yapping while you’re trying to watch!
