Synopsis:
In this gripping prequel to Brian De Palma's 1993 explosive hit Carlito's Way, Jay Hernandez (Friday Night Lights) stars as the young Carlito Brigante, who from an early age is seduced by the power and excitement of the New York underworld. Assisted by his two "brothers" in crime, Rocco (Michael Kelly, Dawn of the Dead) and Earl (Mario Van Peebles, Ali), Carlito is on the fast-track to becoming Spanish Harlem's ultimate kingpin. But when he is challenged, Carlito has just one thing on his mind...survival. Co-starring Sean Combs (Monster's Ball), the Carlito's Way prequel is a non-stop action thriller that reveals the ferocious beginnings of an underworld legend.

I dunno.. I'd kind of like to see the Rise of Benny Blanco instead.

I'm unsure about this too. I'd like them to go back to the source material but the first film apparently adapted both books.

The rise of Benny Blanco would be interesting.

But what's the deal with the prequel being a "non-stop action thriller"? Shouldn't it be a crime drama like the first? I don't mind there being action but the "non-stop" bit makes me think this'll just be a cheesy shoot-em-up.

He may have produced the first Carlito's Way but he also produced The Adventures of Pluto Nash.

I thought Scarface was the prequel to Carlito's Way.

I think Mario Van Peebles hit a career high with Jaws the Revenge - I only see things going downhill from here.

But you're missing out on Baadasssss.

As for a Carlito prequel, think they can get Viggo Mortensen back? With walking legs?

Now CARLITO'S WAY took place in 1975.
So this prequal should be set around the 1960's and by the look of Puff Daddy's wardrobe at the website it looks like 2005.

From what I recall, the film was mostly based on the second book entitled "After Hours" but used the title of first, "Carlito's Way" so as not to be confused with the Scorsese film.

Jay Hernandez I can handle (a little too good-looking to be Carlito, though). But Mario Van Peebles and P. Diddy? I don't think so. They might as well do "Scarface: The Beginning" with Ben Affleck as the young Tony Montana and Colin Farrell as Manny.

I remember the producer "promoting" this on some morning talk show a few months back. He's one annoying bastard.
