Favorite Movie Critic Quote from ROTS Review

"Lucas's romantic dialogue is as risible as ever. Man: "You're so beautiful." Woman: "It's only because I'm so in love." Man: "No, it's because I'm so in love with you." Me: "Man oh man."

Not sure this needed it's own thread, as there is already a review thread. But whatever.

"The general opinion of “Revenge of the Sith” seems to be that it marks a distinct improvement on the last two episodes, “The Phantom Menace” and “Attack of the Clones.” True, but only in the same way that dying from natural causes is preferable to crucifixion." Anthony Lane - The New Yorker

I give it more credit than that, but that quote is bloody brilliant nonetheless.

From today's Boston Phoenix:

"...the Clone Wars, that apocalyptic engagement foretold by Yoda's UNFORGETTABLE [emphasis mine] pronouncement at the end of Episode II - 'Just begun this Clone War is!' "

If he's gonna get the line wrong, I guess it wasn't THAT unforgettable.

(I'm not crazy, right? The line is "Begun this Clone War has", isn't it?)

Anakin "wooing" Padme from AOTC

Anakin: "I don't like sand. It's coarse and rough and irritating and it gets everywhere. Not like here. Here everything is soft and smooth."

Aww. Get that man some lotion.

More "pillow talk" by Anakin from AOTC:

Anakin:".....not a day has gone by when I haven't thought of you. And now that I'm with you again... I'm in agony. The closer I get to you, the worse it gets. The thought of not being with you- I can't breath. I'm haunted by the kiss that you should never have given me. My heart is beating... hoping that kiss will not become a scar. You are in my very soul, tormenting me... "

Padme. Run. Run Away. Far Away.

Correct me if I'm wrong (which I could very well be), IanH.. but are those quotes from movie critics from reviews of Episode III?

No they're actual quotes from the movies. The comments are mine.

Here's my improved edit, what do you think?

I hate the sand because it's sandy, but you, you are not sandy and that is why i love you.

Lucas is mediocre at dialog especially the romantic stuff. The thing that hurt the first two movies was the large amount of exposition. This movie was better because it relied more on telling the story visually.

Thanks. You made me laugh C2 through my nose after I read your post. Now I have to clean up my desk.

And in keeping with the thread's topic, here is what THE WEEKLY STANDARD wrote -

"Hold me, Anakin!" Padmé tells her husband. "Hold me like you did by the lake on Naboo!"

No performer living or dead could pronounce the word "Naboo" without sounding like a moron, and Lucas matches that
authorial infelicity with dozens of others. One of the movie's villains is named "Dooku," and it's a pity that Lucas didn't arrange for Dooku to visit Naboo, because that could have generated a truly memorable piece of dialogue, like "You should never have come to Naboo, Dooku!"

"Let the projectionist raise the audio above a whisper, and your enjoyment of the free-flowing spectacle will be diluted by some of the worst acting and writing known to mainstream film -- and that's by George Lucas' meager standards."

Isn't that from Team America? Or were you referring to the "Yippee!" line? Confusing this is.

I meant that favorite lame quotes from the Prequels might be a better subject for this thread. I think most people caught on and went either way.
