Title: The Thin Man Collection
Starring: William Powell
Released: 2nd August 2005
SRP: $59.92

Further Details
Warner has officially announced The Thin Man Collection which includes The Thin Man, After the Thin Man, Another Thin Man, Shadow of the Thin Man, Song of the Thin Man, The Thin Man Goes Home and the Alias Nick & Nora bonus documentary disc. This sparkling series featured the irresistible William Powell and Myrna Loy chemistry as husband and wife sleuths who solved murders with the aid of their wire-haired terrier, Asta. Set in the glamorous world of 1930s upper-class Manhattan, The Thin Man and its sequels established the standard for witty comedy, clever dialogue and urbane one upmanship. The seven-disc package will be available to own from the 2nd August this year, and should set you back around $59.92 or thereabouts. We'll bring you the official package artwork very shortly. Stay tuned.

Great news! None of the sequels are as good as the first, but they're still fun...

Other than the bonus disc, I wonder what extras will be on the feature discs. Or are they all movie-only?

Dear Warner,

If it will help streamline matters, I can just send you my credit card directly. Let me know.

Much love,

Why do I think that I will run out of money before Warners runs out of new box sets?

In my opinion, most of the sequels are as good as, if not better, than the first film with "Goes Home" being the strongest and "Song of" being the weakest. The first 5 films all rate 3 stars (out of 4) or higher from me and the 6th gets 2.5.

The bonus features on this set sound incredible (episode from TV show, cartoons, shorts, radio shows, 2 documentaries).

I also recommend Dashiell Hammett's original "Thin Man" novel for fun reading. The dialogue is even spicier than the film.

With Tarzan coming out last year and this set coming out this year, I hope this is a trend whereby Warners is releasing collector sets of their "series" films on an annual basis.

An MSRP of $60 translates into sale prices of, hopefully, $50 or less. This looks worthwhile to pick up if not only for the sheer value.

Doesn't beat picking up two copies of The Claude Chabrol Collection for $45, but would be something good.

Sam's Club has had great prices on these Warner sets. Hopefully they will have this one for $42 like many of the others.

Warner's DVD department rocks. Universal should be hiring their entire team from out of Warner's pocket.

updated details on extras from davis dvd

We have updated news for Warner Home Video's seven-disc The Thin Man Collection. Included on the "Alias Nick & Nora" bonus disc will be the documentaries "William Powell: A True Gentleman" and "Myrna Loy: So Nice to Come Home To." Also included in the set are comedy, mystery and musical shorts, two "Thin Man" radio dramas and a 1957 episode from "The Thin Man" TV series starring Peter Lawford and Phyllis Kirk. Look for the collection on August 2nd - Myrna Loy's 100th birthday - with a retail of $59.92.
