Iron Man - Rumors, news / d: Favreau / s: Robert Downey Jr.

from imdb

Chaaaaa, you know what? Uh uh...

Imho, Timothy Dalton is the best one for this role.

Tom Cruise May Play Marvel Superhero 'Iron Man'

Tom Cruise says that he remains interested in playing the Marvel superhero Iron Man. In an interview appearing in the British magazine Empire, Cruise said, "He's a fascinating character, but we've got to figure out how it's going to work. And everyone is doing a Marvel character these days. How do we make that new, create something fresh where it doesn't feel like, 'Oh, here comes another superhero story'?" The magazine commented: "If the deal comes off, Cruise will be the biggest star to don tights and a mask since Errol Flynn, unless you count Stallone's Judge Dredd, which we don't."

Iron Man wears tights?

I'm just guessing this won't happen. Doesn't seem like a good fit.

Cool...I've always wanted them to make a movie out of that Black Sabbath song.

I knew an Iron Man movie was in the works, but seeing Tom Cruise as Tony Stark would pretty much ruin it for me, almost as much as seeing Ben Affleck as Daredevil. Terrible casting IMO. I just hope it's not true.

Wouldn't Cruise be too short to play Iron Man?

Oh yeah, forgot, someone can "fix" that.

Hasn't this rumor been around for awhile now? I'm sure I'd heard of this even when I was still back home.

Horrible. Cruise is no Tony Stark. Burt Reynolds would be a better Tony Stark than Tom Cruise.

Iron Man has always been my favorite Marvel character. I know everybody has their opinions, but why not give Cruise a chance? I actually prefer Nicolas Cage to take the role (as he's been interested as well), but Cruise has proven that he's a good actor (just look at all his Oscar nominations).

Maybe it's about time we see a "big name" actor play a comic book hero. No, I don't consider Ben Affleck (hasn't proven he can carry a film himself) or Sylveser Stallone (hasn't had a hit film in a decade) in the same league as Cruise. With all the mediocre comic book films that have come out recently (Hulk, LXG, etc.) studios probably won't be as willing to hop on the comic book bandwagon. An actor of Cruise's caliber would get the film a bigger budget, and a better chance of getting made. Almost every film Cruise headlines makes over a $100 million.

What I don't understand is what is taking them so long to make an Iron Man film? Why are lesser-known comic properties like Namor, Iron Fist and Man-Thing (all of whom have had their comics cancelled) getting the go-ahead much sooner?

Yeah, Ken Watanabe (Katsumoto in Last Samurai) is 6' 2", and they made him look just as short, or as "tall" as Tom Cruise.

Does Tom Cruise realize that Iron Man is NOT the nickname for an ass-dildo?

Iron man isn't my favorite hero, but hey aslong as they stay away from the awful HULK transitions/wipes then I'm all for it. nothing could be as bad as that!

Interesting, the editing style was one of my favorite aspects of Hulk.

I would see Cruise in this role. I like Iron Man, I think Cruise is a very good actor. He gets a lot of flak because he's so huge, and not every one of his films is a winner, but I'd see this. Timothy Dalton would also be great, however.

I found the editing distracting as all hell. It was like they were trying to use every possible combination of wipe and dissolve around. I think they left out a modulated star matrix wipe.. but everything else was covered atleast once and it was just sooo damn frustrating
