I'd rent first as well, not that good of a movie. If you like Twister or ID4, maybe you'll want to buy it.

Fun film but obvious that a better version will come out eventually.

Id say Rent it and then if you like it buy the next version

Short of a Super Bit, I'm not sure what that'd be. I highly recommend this doomsday delight in my current column.

Hasn't this already been scheduled for a quick double-dip? If I recall correctly Regions 2 & 3 are right now getting a 2-disc set which will be later be released in the U.S. Same thing is going to happen with "I Robot" if memory serves me right. Actually last I checked - if you are region-free capable - you can pick up the Region 3 2-disc release for less than the price of the 1-disc "I Robot" that is coming to the U.S.

I think it's pretty weak of the studio to release a 2-disc set in other regions and then hit those of us in the U.S. with 2 separate releases in a short period of time. The material for the 2-disc set is obviously ready but the studio is holding it back from U.S. consumers. People who frequent these boards - especially the highly informative International forum - might be aware of the situation but the general public is definitely not.

I don't know about other regions, but the recently released "Man on Fire" was announced for a double-dip a week after its release here in the U.S. I think the new version comes early next year.

I've severely curtailed my purchasing of Region 1 mass-market titles due in great part to the aforementioned practices.

G. Noel Gross, please consider amending your review to indicate that another superior release of " The Day After Tomorrow" might soon be imminent.

Superior? What good's a second disc of crapola? But I'll add a note.

I was wondering if I should go out and get this at midnight.

I guess since I enjoy both ID4 and Twister that this might be just the mindless popcorn flick I thought it would be.

This was an awesome movie! I loved it! Some of the effects in it were amazing and it makes you wonder how they did. I say yes it is a very good blind buy!

I just got finished watching this today. I would recommend renting it first. I'm glad I did. It's not a bad movie, just nothing worth owning IMO.

If you can get it for less than 19.00 and change and love some of the movies listed above.

It was 15.00 at Wal-Mart when I made my weekly midnight movie run so I had no problems buying it. The effects are kinda weak in some parts but I still thought it was a fun ride.

I never thought I'd say this but The Core was much more entertaining then The Day After Tomorrow. The only redeeming factor in TDAT was the special effects, even then they were kind of boring. I really didn't care if anyone survived.

The cover has not been really covered, but it is pretty cool. It has a slip sleeve that has the theatrical poster image on it. It is one of those holographic image (not sure if this is correct discription).

It was a lot of fun when I saw it at the theater, though I'm not sure I'd want to watch it again - so many brainless cliches carried over from every other disaster flick. The effects really are amazing though.

It might lose something on the small screen.

Best Buy has put bonus disc on both "The Day After Tomorrow" and "Man on Fire". The bonus discs contain making-of futurettes. Do you guys think if the studio releases a better version, will the contents in those bonus discs be added to the special features? Thank you for answering my question.

If you like disaster flicks like I do, I would pick it up. If not, then pass.

Probably not since this is some Best Buy exclusive.

i got the local R2 2-disc set today and if you like the film and want to own it, i highly suggest waiting for the inevitable R1 2-disc release.. i haven't looked at the extras, but it's definitely a packed 2nd disc, including a 70-minute doc on the shooting of it.. there's probably 2½-3 hours at least of video material on the 2nd disc.

I rented it yesterday and watched it today for the first time. Glad I didn't buy it. Great special effects and good DTS sound but silly subplots. I won't go in to detail but I kept thinking how silly. I could watch it again some day but wouldn't spent like $16 to own it.
