Xmas is coming

With the season fast approaching what does everyone listen to during the holiday season? I have a few cd's made up of Xmas tunes done by popular artists. Stuff like Bon Jovi, Springsteen, Bowie, Lennon,U2, Bing, Elvis, Queen, Sinatra...... bit of everything. Thinking of doing another this year. Any suggestions?

I'm listening to Mariah Carey's Merry Christmas album a lot during the holidays. Great production and vocals.

I'm looking forward to the new Trans-Siberian Orchestra disc this year. I might also get the "New" version of Setzer's disc with bonus tracks. The regular one is a great album.

There's a band from Orlando, Swingerhead, that has the best Christmas album around in my opinion. Its called, obviously, A Swingerhead Christmas.

Dandy Warhols - Little Drummer Boy
Coil - Christmas Is Now Drawing Near
Trans-Siberian Orchestra stuff

I'm a sucker for bombastic versions of Carol of the Bells. Minus the lyrics.

I was browsing allmusic.com yesterday and found out about this release. It totally slipped under my radar. I'm going to pick it up, but I think I will wait for a bit. I've liked all of their Christmas songs so far and went to a holiday show of theirs back in '96 - it was excellent. I'm sure this CD will be on sale at some point as the holidays approach.

Every year I compile a CD as sort of a Christmas card for family and friends. I just got a metric ton of Christmas CDs from the library including...the California Raisins.

The various Peanut's X-Mas special soundtracks. "Linus & Lucy" is Christmas to me. Actually I listen to these year round, they just are extra special towards the end of November.

edited to add: I'm an idiot as I didn't come close to answering your question. I'm going to go stand in the corner now.

My favourite christmas song is probably 'Someday at Christmas' - The Jackson 5. I think Stevie Wonder did it originally but I've never heard his version.

Mel Torme also did a pretty good christmas album ('Christmas Songs') and Natalie Cole did an awesome jazz version of Carol of the Bells. The home alone version of that song is cool too.

[Halloween sidetrack:]

For those that like TSO (big fan here, especially the live show), check out "Van Helsing's Curse" album. It has Dee Snider on some of the vocals with many members/influence of TSO in the band.

It's a concept album much like the TSO albums, with a Halloween theme, good stuff

I've always been a fan of the classic Motown Christmas album. Some great Jackson 5 and Stevie Wonder songs. I also like the Luther Vandross album with original Christmas songs. Oh yeah, the new Chris Isaak Christmas disc is very good as well.

I think that you'll find the Mistletunes website really helpful.

This album's great:

("Trim Your Tree" is a great song)

I just input the songs that I've used for my Christmas CDs over the past five years into a spreadsheet, to avoid future duplication. Can't believe I didn't do that sooner.

Anyone hear A Christmas Album by Bright Eyes? Just wondering if it's any good (I do like his cover of "Blue Christmas" on the Saddle Creek website).
