I have no problem with them keeping the ad. I also don't think they're keeping it to stick it to you or prevent you from anything, they're just keeping backup info for the proce override.

Point is, I just bought the damn item and now own it. Why would I want the ad anymore?

Are other people having problems with Best Buy and Walmart tearing pricematch ads apart so you can't re-use them? Last time I told them I needed the ad and they said they had to take the entire page or they wouldn't give me the pricematch. I don't remember seeing "all ads will be confiscated" as part of the pricematch policy.
My Best Buy has been doing this to me for the past year or more. I was talking with a pretty friendly sales clerk once and they are doing it for a reason, not just to screw you.

In many cases, when the clerk performs a pricematch, then what happens is at the end of their shift when they have to cash out, they need to provide their supervisor with documentation of why a particular pricematch was given. So, they need a copy of the ad for that purpose. Mine typically just rips out the product I pricematched and then they stick it in the "coupon/gift certificate" drawer.

Of course, if your clerk is just tearing it up and throwing it away...then maybe they're just annoyed.

BTW...I was also told if they cannot provide documentation of the pricematch, then that's a mark against them. 3 marks and they are terminated.

Exactly. Without documentation, they would have free reign to give friend's made-up prices.

Actually, the latimes also hosts the ads, but just for the day that they're run, so if I miss a Tuesday ad and it's Wednesday, I can't go back...

Thanks for the tip, though.

Will the star wars set be $36.99 in Oregon? It seems like the Fry's store in Oregon has their dvd prices a little higher than other stores in the country since there is no sales tax. Will the set be $38.99 or even $39.99? Thanks.

The Frys ad in the Friday Oregonian (upper right corner of the first page of the ad) showed $36.99. Tuesday only, 1 per customer.

I'll make a xerox copy of the top part of the Fry's ad with the Star Wars deal for my area (not L.A.) and hopefully that will be good enough. I figured they were taking the ads just so people can't use them any more rather than for documentation of the pricematch.

The only reason I would bother with PM'ing at Walmart is this:
Walmart = < 1 mile away, open 24 hours, on my way to work
Best Buy = 5 miles away, opens at 10am (after I'm supposed to be at work), out of my way
Fry's = 11 miles away, opposite direction of my work, opens at 8am but traffic is terrible until after I'm supposed to be at work and as Han would say "no reward is worth this" (the traffic).

Since Best Buy has the free magazine ("gift") and Reward Zone points, I'd like to buy it there. However, I consider the Walmart PM an easy backup plan in case everyone is out of stock by the time I can get to Best Buy. I'm not sure what I'll do. Ideally Best Buy would have enough widescreen copies, but it sounds like this is going to be the biggest DVD release yet and all copies may be gone in the first 5 minutes. (That's what often happens on day after Thanksgiving sales.)

I don't know why everyone's so happy about the Fry's $36.99. It's one day only and you have to pay taxes. If you want the best price, you can get it from Amazon with STL (and a9 discount) for $37.20. Granted, you don't have it day-of, but I got all my Tuesday orders this week on Wednesday, so I can wait a day. Plus, you save on tax, and you can support DVDTalk.com. On top of that, it's delivered to your front door.

Sometimes, like on a big release like this, it's fun to go to a store and pick it up for yourself and only pay 1 or 2 bucks more and watch it all day.

With all the Share The Love mistakes that Amazon has been making lately, then making people actually prove that they had STL in the first place, when they knew there was a problem, they don't deserve my business at this time.

I got screwed on my Star Trek order from them, and because of that I bought Season One somewhere else, and sent back the Amazon copy to them for a refund. Personally, I won't be buying anything from them again until I get my refund (which should be in a few days), and until they get their STL problems taken care of.

That's why the Fry's deal is pretty good.

It would be great if STL wasn't quite screwed up (only a phone call, but still annoying) and, worse still, I live in Washington State where Amazon charges sales tax.

Picked up Maverick and Femme Fatale today. They tried charging me full price, but I got the guy to knock them down to $7 each. Poor trainee...really had no idea what he was doing. Then, on top of that, I surprised him with a gift certificate...guess he's gotta learn some time

Can you take the scan of Fry's ad and price match at a Best Buy anywhere or does it have to be in the general location of that Fry's?

Probably has to be in the general location (ie: a direct competitor)... and they probably won't take a scan because of how easy it is to modify numbers...

Well if thats the case you might as well just order all new releases at DDD or something There's a comfort in having it in your hands on release day.
