I also liked this movie a great deal ... very interesting visuals, and pretty good performances throughout (thought I thought Tommy Lee Jones was a little over the top, even given the circumstances).

Any available director's cut of the film. Not sure if there is more than one (I have the Trimark release without the insert and the chapter selections on the back of the case)...
Oh and the dvd is great. I love the deleted scenes.
And Oliver Stone is always great on his commentaries.
This film is great...and supposedly influenced many people to kill.....

The Director's Cut disc from Trimark is non-anamorphic. The best-quality video transfer is on the Warner Bros release, which is unfortunately not the Director's Cut. So you have to decide which is more important to you, the extra scenes or an anamorphic transfer.

I met Oliver Stone once, and he said that nobody who saw only the theatrical cut was in a fit position to judge the film.
He seemed really wasted, but I agree with him, regardless.
[Full context was that it was a Q&A at NYU, and somebody asked him to respond to a teacher who had said the film was garbage, and he basically said, "If he watched the theatrical cut, it's not even worth arguing, because he didn't see the actual movie," and then, after the Q&A, I brought up the disc to get signed, and as he was signing, he said, "Yeah, see, this is what I mean, this version, right?"]
There aren't too many major differences, just 150 or so little ones. But I'd sum it up as ... the theatrical cut, it's really obvious what Stone is *trying* to do ... the director's cut actually accomplishes most of 'em.
Needless to say, I'm a fan of it.
PS: If anybody finds a copy of the director's cut with Stone's signature across Harrelson's bald head in a used store in the NYC area, it's probably the one that was stolen from me.

Get the uncut version,it rocks
Hopefully a 16.9 version will be released someday. But after seeing both versions,I am never going back to the R version again. It cuts out too much. Sure it may 'seem little',but actually does add alot to the scenes..and 150 cuts is alot of cuts.
It is right up there with the uncut True Romance, much better and more visceral experiance.

definately agree with the Directors Cut. but like one poster said, its either your choice, if you want an uncut version of the film, or a better picture transfer.
I personally think the movie is great.
