John Carpenter: The Man and His Movies?
Saw this listing over at Davisdvd as coming in March... does anyone have any info on this beside what Amazon has posted? I have all of his films except for a few on DVD and was wondering if anyone has heard anything on this and if it will be worth adding to my JC collection.
"One of the great maverick directors of the past three decades, John Carpenter changed the face of horror and action with a string of worldwide smash hits. A true renaissance man of the silver screen, he often writes, produces and scores his films as well and has proven himself with over 35 films . From his breakthrough classic, Halloween (one of the most successful independent features of all time), to such audience favorites as Escape from New York, The Thing, Assault on Precinct 13, Big Trouble in Little China, They Live, Prince of Darkness and many more, the whole story is covered in this fascinating documentary. Featuring interviews with Jamie Lee Curtis, Kurt Russell, Peter Fonda, Debra Hill, Alice Cooper, Adrienne Barbeau, Stacey Keach and many more!" -Amazon
Thx.

I really enjoy The Thing and Escape From New York but his other movies aren't up there imo.
-Assault on Precinct 13 wasn't good imo
-They Live had some cool ideas just wasn't brought to life
-Big Trouble oh man where to begin! It was fun, but too B-Movie for me.
-The Fog interesting elements in it with the greed but again wasn't brough to life in its fullest imo.
-Halloween was interesting if not almost B-movie, after watching it twice I lost interest.
-Ghost of Mars had some cool elements as well but whoever was in charge of casting should be shot, some of those characters (with the exception of Natasha) were really out of place (ie Ice Cube).
I never saw Prince of Darkness or Vampires, I will eventually though.

And, yes, that cover is pretty terrible. Someone took a 2-hour Photoshop class and then just went nuts.

Of course, I love the Carpenter, but he's not exactly, uh, well, a "handsome man".

Know a guy who has always idolized Carpenter...he saw him in L.A. and approached him to tell him how wonderful he thought he was and what an impact his films have had on him, and he said Carpenter was a total beeeyatch.
