DVD Talk review of 'Rush In Rio'
I read Matthew Millheiser's DVD review of Rush In Rio at http://www.dvdtalk.com/reviews/read.php?ID=9093 and...
would disagree on the audio portion of his review and thought the crowd noise should have been toned down more than a bit, Geddy's vocals are drowned out by the crowd almost to the point of distraction a big disapointment in what could have been a great rush video for this fan.

Hi there.
I'd agree to a point. The 6-channel mix is definitely trigger happy with the crowd noise. I fiddled with my receiver's settings a tad to achieve a better delivery of the audio (listening to Rush live is a different aural delivery than listening to, say, Bad Boys 2, and adjustments should be made). Even with that, it's still a really good presentation of the show, if not just the music. Those Brazilians sure are into Rush, I tell you what...
The 2.0 channel is definitely superior if you want a fantastic representation of the music.

I disliked the presentation every bit as much as the ridiculous audio mix. For a 20+ camera shoot they sure don't have much by way of interesting angles. The lighting is way too dark (I mean, they did know they were filming, right?), and the editing seems to have been done by someone with epilepsy.
The lack of an anamorphic transfer, at the end of 2003, is beyond comprehension. Shame for a band with such a consistent level of quality across media. Have a look at the new Peter Gabriel Growing Up Live DVD for an example of solid presentation.
That said, for fans, the CD audio mix is still worth having.

i read on thedigitalbits.com that an anamorphic transfer would have made the transfer look worse, not better then the current transfer, and that a dts track wouldn't fit.
