You're joking, right?? SEARCH is my friend! You might want to make it your friend too. If you don't find what you're looking for after a search, then go [here] to read all about anamorphic.

[here] is another great resource for newcomers to DVD.

Good reading!

Anamorphic
Refers to a conventional widescreen process of film projection. With anamorphic lenses, the image is "squeezed" into standard 4:3 frame and then projected by another anamorphic lens in the widescreen format. If you have a standard television, you can see the anamorphic image by setting your DVD player's video output to 16x9 and playing a 16x9 enhanced disc.

A question I have that I cant seem to find an answer to is..If I have my TV on 16x9 enhancement mode, and the DVD is 16x9 enhanced, do I need to set my DVD player's output to 16x9? I wouldnt ask this question in this forum, however the thread was started so I thought I would go ahead and ask.

Yes.

Your DVD player should be left in 16:9 mode by default. If a disc isn't anamorphically-enhanced, the DVD player will know the difference and will output it properly anyway. You will just need to change the setting on your TV in that case.

Yes, it works great. 16x9 on the DVD player and 16x9 enhancment on the TV ( I have it on my Wega), and it makes the pic increadiably sharp

Does your Wega compress the pixels it displays into a 16:9 area on the 4:3 TV surface? I know I heard a few TVs do this...

I'm not sure what you mean by "compress the pixels." The pixels do not vary in size. I think you asking if it scans the black bars on the top and bottom of the screen. The answer is no, it doesn't. It just scans the image area. I have my Wega HDTV hooked up to a prog. scan DVD player, and the picture is really nice.
