Will any of the larger retailers be carrying this on October 7th, or will I have to go somewhere like the Disney Store to pick up a copy?

Man, nice set. I'm on the fence here, I never (and I mean never) buy gift sets, not even LOTR and I'm a total Jackson fan boy. I might grab this, though. For my girlfriend, of course

Looks very nice, and the price for the gift set isn't that much more than the standard edition, so I may be picking the set up instead.

Just picked up the Gift Set at Best Buy. The crowd around the new releases table looked like lunch time at Pride Rock

The book is very nice. 160 pages, hardbound with very nice prints and sketches from the movie. First half of the book is the story of how the movie came about. The rest is a storybook of the movie.

I thought the 9 character sketches were pretty cool. Each is enclosed in it's own slipcover.

The movie itself is absolutely gorgeous. The new Disney Home Theater Remix is great. I was impressed with the vocal clarity during the songs.

So, all in all, I'm pretty happy with it.

I picked mine up today, $36 wasn't that bad at all.

Theres something so odd, yet soothing about seeing it standing side by side with my Scarface giftset.

I picked it up too. The book is almost better than the E.T. book.

I agree with you. I like the current look of the Platinum Editions, and it looks strange on my shelf with Snow White in a double-amaray case next to the slim 2-disc amaray cases of Beauty and the Beast and now The Lion King. I doubt anything like that will happen as Snow White is OOP now.

If they would have added a bonus dvd strictly limited to the gift set, I would buy it. But those paper extras just wont cut it for me. I would rather by another dvd with that extra cash.

I plan to sell the PE in the gift set and get R2 UK version for about $24 shipped (THX and dts) or R4 Brazilian version for less than $20 shipped(dts). The only reason I am not getting the R3 Korean version (THX and dts) is that it is more expensive than R2 UK version and there will be Korean written all over it...

The results from R3 Taiwanese version (dts, no THX) is that the colors are not as rich as R1 and audio is not as defined as R1 (DD and THX)
