You know, I just found out that an Action Replay will make a PS2 into a reigon-free player. I might just pick one up for that.

Completely o/t : Does anyone know a cheap place to get a couple of short optical cables. I just bought a splitter, which I understand I can use to run both my PS2 and Xbox into my stereo, but now I need a couple more optical cables to finish the project.

Check out Ebay. They run cheap optical cables.

Xbox natively does PAL-NTSC conversion, right?

They have a good forum (link in bar across top of page)

Basically you have to MOD your Xbox. They have ALL the ins and outs to it. You install a chip then update the bios.

They all have an on/off capability nowadays so you can go on live. You have to disable it before you go live.

If you know which region you want to set your xbox to (and you won't be switching regions), you can just purchase the DVD dongle for that specific region and use it as an "insert-region here" specific DVD player. I bought a region 2 DVD dongle (from the UK) and play all my British DVDs on my xbox. You have to make sure that you haven't plugged another dongle in first though, or you'll have to use a mod chip to switch the region. The only drawback is that your xbox is permanently set to region 2 (or whatever region's dongle you bought), but if you have another DVD player that you use to watch your r1 DVDs on, then it's great (as it was in my case).

Don't forget, though, that it won't do PAL -> NTSC conversion (like the Xbox), so it will play in black and white (and look like crap) if your TV won't do the conversion.

Ouch! I didn't know that! Why would they advertise that it becomes a reigion free player if it won't convert?

Well, it *does* do region free (it plays discs from other regions), it just won't convert the signal to anything readable by any NTSC TV

Thanks I did. I bought 2 for $3 each. They don't look as nice as the monster one I have hooked up now, but they all work the same, right?
