ARGHH! Dead Xbox NIC
HELP ME!!! I haven't played on Live for about a month. Went to hop online and it wouldn't connect to Live. It complains that the network cable isn't connected. I've verified that it's connected, swapped out cables, tested the jack to make sure it's good.
I also plugged in my PS2 and hopped online with SOCOM. Worked perfectly for PS2. The only thing I can think of is that the NIC in my Xbox is dead. My Xbox was made in Oct of 2001.
Does anyone know where I can go to figure out how to repair it? Have anyone else had their NIC fail?
Thanks!

The first two options that I can think of are:
1.Call the 1800 xbox number and pay $100 to fix it.
2.Trade it in to EBgames (I think) for $100 credit and buy a new one.
Since the NIC is built onto the motherboard, I don't think that this'll be a fix-it-yourself thing.

I had that problem and it was not a bad NIC card. It was something on my end with the cabling or my router/modem. I do not remember exactly what, but it was simple and stupid. Double check everything and then call the LIVE help line.
Good Luck.

goLucky - Doesn't EBGames check if the NIC is still working?
Ginsu - I've double checked everything. I'm 99.9% sure that everything is ok b/c I can unplug the cable from the Xbox and plug it into my PS2 and I can hop on line with SOCOM. This tells me that there is something wrong with my Xbox NIC.
What a bummer!

hook up the Xbox and unplug the router's power cable and plug it back in - it should work after that... if not, try pressing the reset button on the router. If it still doesn't work after that, then you might have a bad NIC.

Trigger I do that and it STILL doesn't work through a router, but it does work through a modem.
I'd say if he's using a router the only real way to tell is to try it directly through a modem.

I'll try turning power cycling the router to see if that helps. I am using a Cayman 3546 DSL router w/ PPPoE. So, I don't have a modem to directly connect the Xbox to.
I called Xbox HW support and they quoted $109 + shipping to them to basically replace my Xbox with another reburb unit.
ARGHH!!!
Thanks for the translation btw. I was like Huh?? when I first read it.

Do your self a favor and buy your next xbox from costco. My xbox went dead after 9 months. I took it back to costco and they gave me a complete refund not exchange. The nice thing was the price went down so i made 20 bucks. Costco does not question any returns unless its a computer or laptop. I ask the person at costco and they said they did not care if it was 3 years old they would still give me the purchase price back. That goes for anything at costco. Just a little help for everyone.

I'm trying to finish a deal to sell my Xbox right now. $100 for the Xbox, 2 orig style controllers, and MotoGP.
If it falls thru. I'll let you know.
I'll go checkout Costco. I imagine that the price for an Xbox is pretty much the same everywhere right? $179.99?

I had the same problem, but with my PS2 instead of my Xbox. I just removed the cable from the router, reset the router, and tried again and this worked. Not sure what would cause that to happen.

You're our best friend?
You want to ride your bicycle?
This thing called Love, you can't handle it?
Beelzebub put a devil inside the Xbox?
Or will Flash save every one of us?
Heck, I don't even know what a NIC is.

By the way if you need a technical term defined and you don't know it ... www.whatis.com is your friend.
