Mitsubishi WS-73411 - Opinions?

My local Ultimate Electronics has an open box Mitsubishi WS-73411 in "A+ condition" for $3644 (normal price is $4499.)

Is this a good deal? Or would I be better off going with a smaller set with more features?

That's a pretty good price IMO. Last year for the 73" Mits so if this is your size, get it while you can. Personally I'm holdin out for the new 65" Diamond which will use the 9" CRTs found only in the soon to be extinct 73s. But alot more dough.

That TV is freakin huge. No wonder they didn't sell too many. Beautiful set but not for the average family room. If this was a floor model, stay away. If it was just an open box or a return, see if they'll throw in the extended warranty.

That's the model? I don't know if an open box unit is worth it.

The 9" tubes on that thing are great though. Properly calibrated, they can resolve upwards of about 1600 lines.

This year is not the last year mits is making the 73'. In fact, they are coming out with a 82 inch Lcos.... Talk about Freakin Huge.

This is the last year though, in which they will have non integrated 73 inch set. Meaning that next year all the the 73' will have internal hd tuners, alongside with netcomand 3.0 and firewire.

Its been heavily debated as to the usefullness of the internal tuners, but if you want the most options with the largest screen (and cannot control back lighting), the 73411 is the way to go.

I would agree with JimRochester though.. if it been a floor model, stay away...... regardless of what the guy throws in (warranty, floor mats, etc). If it has been an open box, thoroughly inspect......

Also regarding bigE's comment of the 65' with 9 inch guns..... its a beatiful set and well worth the wait.... It has an awesome picture and comes with a 1394 firewire and dvi and netcommand that has learning capability. (what else does one need? =)

Good luck Jason!

The Salesman assured me it's not a floor model. Supposedly the original purchaser got it home and couldn't get it into his living room. Everything is there except the box (though I haven't seen it myself yet.)

I'm going back out there tonight to look it over.

Sounds like a good deal to me. Follow it up with a visit/membership to hometheaterspot.com. They have tons of DIY tweaks to get the Mitsu's really fine-tuned.
