Traders Dialogue Thread.

Since I've noticed a trend of a business as usual manner around these parts, I'd like to create a place where we fellow traders can simply just...talk to each other.

Just simply follow these guidelines:

Limit your ramblings to this thread, thanks.
Please use the others threads to post your trades. Do not use this area to trade.
Respect each other. The idea is to be more open with each other, not at each other's virtual throats. This is not a thread to rank on each other's trading habits. If you have a problem with someone, take it up with them in private through e-mails.

I'll start a topic...

Anyone have a funny mailman story?

Recently my mailman, who's become my new best friend in a sense, starting this weird trend of throwing my packages to me as they were a football. I know I can catch well, and he seems to have a good arm, but i'm getting a little concerned that it might shake something loose. Should I tell him to stop?

Hey, This thread is a great idea, just hope nothing is said that someone will take personally.

Anyway, about the mailman, there's only one way that I see to handle it. When your mailman comes by with a package and looks for you to throw to simply jump out of the bushes and sack him. That should get the point acrossed to him, but please don't hit him low ala Joe Theisman....

No funny mailman story but someone at work told me this story, which happened to him.

He was in a video store many years ago and took his movie up to the counter. It was a large video store, and of course, one that carried adult material... okay.. porno. So, he takes his tape up and is told that the movie he has is for BETA only, not VHS.

So, the clerk behind the counter gets on the loud speaker and asks, do we have "insert porno name here" in stock in VHS?

The guy, embarassed as hell, can't believe this. He turns around and sees everyone looking at him... and of course, who happens to be standing in line behind him? A Priest. And of course, the guy is wearing his old Catholic High School shorts and shirt.

Needless to say, somewhat embarassing and.. yes.. he did get the movie!

Well, since this thread is dying just like the trader who doesn't get any replies because he doesn't have an Criterions, let me try to revive it.

Things I hate, dislike or just generally notice:

1) All a trader is looking for is a new released movie when you know when he/she receives the movie, they may not even watch it.. and even if they do, the next day it is up for trade on their thread.

2) Those that think they are holier than thou. This is not directed to anyone in particular but come on. We see the big trade lists... yet you never make a trade! What's up with that? Whatca gonna do with all those boxed sets and Criterions? Watch em once and stare at em?

3) I noticed that the least amount of posts is done between 4am-7am eastern time. I notice that because I get home from work after 6:30 and usually the last post is around 3:30am.

4) How many Special Editions can there be? I mean, a movie just gets released and already it is a Special Edition. I have seen Special Editions that contained nothing but the movie and film credits. What is so special about that?

5) Why is it that the movie that generally does the worst in the box office, or does well and just totally sucks, becomes a DVD hit among all DVDERS?

6) And yes, Spiderman will be included. (See #5)

7) It is funny how trading DVDS becomes an auction as to who can offer the most in return... and it usually isn't always fair.

Offer: I'll trade you Nixon for your Andre DVD.
Response: How about your Nixon, A Beautiful Mind, Speed 5 Star and one other for the Andre DVD?
Offer: Umm, Andre sells online for about 16 bucks.. that doesn't seem to even.
Response: Sorry, gonna have to pass then... I thought it was a good deal.

8) I am waiting for the day that the Good Traders list has more people that have been banned. Only 10+ people? Seerms kinda low. I am not saying that there are bad traders here.... just waiting for the day.... hee hee

9) Do we really need the Olsen Twins on a DVD when there are so many more deserving movies that should be on DVD?

10) Final try:

A Beautiful Mind, Nixon, Braveheart & Slience of the Lambs CC for Andre AND Free Willy? We have a deal???

bill, you're killing me!!! ha ha!
Or how about the lists which relates to your #2.
The guys that should be running a friggin' franchise and again not about anyone in particular. Where the line in their post goes:

RULES:
-only paypal, mastercards and visas accepted and only limited to mastercards that start with a 1 and end with a 7.
-only 1 request per client and anything not on the holy request list will not be even checked.
*Serious enquiries only, no old ladies in wheelchairs or Canadians with the first name Hortense.

Spy Game CE 7 copies, one previously viewed - $17
one watched twice in a convent - 16.50
the others bought at Walmart sealed - 19.00 (serious buyers only)

lighten up when you're trading, and get a sense of humour, we all like to laugh on the post. This isn't a survival game.

We've certainly got a handful of members with those types of trade lists. I remember a recently banned member who had the same list up week after week. Often times he'd list the same titles on his for trade and wantlist. I traded him a box set once that was on his wantlist. A couple days later he had it for trade. A week or two later it was on his wantlist again! WTF? I only managed to work out one trade with this person as they were also a prime example of the lopsided traded offer Bill lists in #7. He once insisted his used Armageddon: Criterion was worth $50!

My wantlist is incredibly small, at least my Region 1 wantlist is. I realize most here don't have other Region DVDs much less titles they want to trade so I've been offering my titles for trade or sale lately. I am a longtime believer in preferring to trade rather than sell but if you're not getting anywhere with the same titles after a few days, try putting them up for sale. That'll usually do the trick. However, if you think your used DVD is worth $17 plus shipping you're a bit crazy. There are a number of DVDs I'd buy used in a minute from people here if only they'd offer them for sale. Instead, they hold out for that one in a million chance someone will have the perfect trade.

I have only one real pet peeve, those who can't read. Someone right now has a thread which includes these words in the title: "EMAIL ALL OFFERS" and yet there were 18 replies last I checked!

Totally codefree.

I tell people in my thread to e-mail the offers, but they seem to feel the need to post them on my thread. Which is ok I guess, but, I'd rather have a trade in private.

PS: My mailman hates me! I try to be friendly to him whenever I see him and thank him for bringing the larger packages to my door but he's a very ornery man.

My former mailman, Dan, was the coolest postal employee around. He'd chat for a minute or two once in awhile and when I explained that it was DVDs in all those packages, he thought the idea of movies on a disc was neat. Thereafter he said things like "Here's some more movies for you Chad." Heck, awhile later he told me he had bought a DVD player.

I sometimes get paranoid and think that people get annoyed that I have such a big want list on my thread and at dvdaficionado (over 400 wants on dvdaf!)

It's not because i'm greedy, it's just that I really do watch a lot of films and I really have a wide selection of tastes and I feel the need to put that across when asking what i would want.

I usually ask people to email me rather than post because I like to have a copy of all communication regarding a trade until both parties have received their DVDs and are pleased with the trade. Being that I update my threads often, replies posted to them aren't very permanent at all. Still, it's not a huge deal. I certainly don't get pissed when people reply to my post. I usually just send them an email reply to their post.

Personally, I wish more people had large wantlists like you do. It makes it so much easier to offer a trade if I know what you're after. It's people with five titles on their wantlist that are difficult to trade with although admittedly, I did that recently.

I put up a list of about 20 titles I'd be willing to buy but I only received a couple replies. I managed to buy just Old Yeller and NOTLD: ME. Most people just don't like to sell.

And then they look at you as though you're the idiot for turning down such an "amazing" offer.

true, codefree.

It's hard to strike a balance because we all are on here to get specific things or at least we know what we would want if we
see it.

Thankfully, what you took from me wasn't on your want list.... probably just the "what the hell" list.

I always like it when someone says, I can get that movie for 5 bucks down the street... if so, why the hell is it on your want list? Buy the freaking thing!

Hey I watched and enjoyed both of your movies last night. All in all a very good trade IMO. All I look for in a DVD is an anamorphic transfer which they both had... I couldn't care less about extras. I've got such a small wantlist that I'm willing to say "eh, what the hell it beats having a movie I know I don't like."

I think there is somewhat of a paradox too because most of us at some point participated in a deal or offer where we knew we were making out big time at our end. I also believe that as time goes by most traders realize there is an etticate and and not
screwing over someone or at least trying not to is the way to go because it definetly has a way of falling back on you at some point. I know we all in the end want a somewhat harmonious existence. Or at least i'd hope so.

Actually if I can throw my 2 cents in I hate the attitude of certain Gold Traders here who expect non Gold Traders to send first, whatever happened to trust

Oh and I am still awaiting a package from a Gold Trader here [been a month now] so wether you are a Gold Trader or not it doesnt make any difference to me

I prefer emails. But stopped adding it to my tradelist because people didn't quite understand.

And on the Gold Traders note.

I feel comfortable sending at the same time to Gold Traders, but always shaky to anyone under 9 feedbacks. Just a thing I guess.
