Lars Von Trier "The Idiots" DVD
I recently bought a region 0 dvd of "The Idiots" from HK with English and Chinese subtitles. To my surprise, it had been edited heavily. The original film runs 117 minutes, and this one is only 110.
When I looked up the UK version of the DVD, it was 110 too. Is there not an unedited version of this movie without black bars or totally deleted segments?
Any help is appreciated.

I have the Uk disc and I'm 99.9 % sure it is uncut. The time being 110 minutes is probably from the pal speed up which is 4% faster than NTSC. The only bad thing about the UK Idiots dvd is that it is supposedly very slightly cropped from 1:33 to 1:66.

How to tell if it's uncut.
If you can see penises, then it's uncut.
In the US VHS version, you see moving black bars. It really draws away from the film and draws your attention to the nudity even more.

Someone correct if I am wrong, but was this film ever released on US Region 1 DVD? Even the VHS version, which I thought might have been restored to it's full unrated glory, is still the abbreviated censored R-rated version.
Penises....uncut.....heehee

Thanks for the info on the UK version of this! I saw HKFLIX offering the Japanese version a few months back, and avoided that version because of the black bars. I just placed an order with Bensons, and I can't wait to see it!

If you see the Fejui DVD, then you're bound to gain an all-new appreciation of the black-box censorship of the U.S. theatrical release (which is identical to the version shown occasionally on Cinemax). The FEJUI DVD version doesn't simply cover up the naughty bits via black boxes - it removes those scenes altogether! If you've seen the film, then you know this means some very extensive scenes were removed. In other words, DON'T BUY THE FEJUI DISC!!!!
(And, yes, the UK version is in the wrong aspect ratio - which is especially galling since the aspect ratio is one of those "rules" of dogme-95! - but I don't know whether anything else is cut or otherwise altered.)
(I too am hoping Criterion comes through with this one.)

Is there a Scandanavian release of this that is 1.33 with English subtitles by chance??
No.
The UK disc is uncut. I don't see any problem with the aspect ratio -it's not as if the film should be anamorphic and framed at 2.35:1. It's meant to look rough and it is. The UK disc is Region Free BTW (that's PAL not NTSC).
