you've got $1,000 to spend on a tv
what do you get ???
it's not me actually, it's my gf but seeing as how i will probably use it more than her - i guess it will be mine by association
anyhow she's been running up a list and here's what she's got so far:
Sony KV36FS13
Sony KV35S42
Panasonic CT36D31
Toshiba 36A61
anyone have any feedback on any of these tv's or any feeback on a tv not mentioned here? $1,000 must include everything to shipping and tax (where applicable). also any sites you guys might have to compare models etc would help - thanks

I like the Toshiba. It is a great value.
Where have you been finding the KV36FS13 for under $1000 including taxes and shipping? It usually runs $1300+ tax and shipping. I've seen prices in the sub-$1100 range but never sub-$1000.

Go with the Wega. Sam's Club has the lower end 36" 2001 model for $999.95 + tax. Does the 16X9 mode so you can really enjoy DVD's.

the toshiba is $1011 (includes shipping) at abt.com.
abt.com doesn't charges taxes. i forget why.
if you live in nyc, the toshiba is $926 (includes shipping and taxes) from j and r world. it would probably cost a hundred or two more if you don't live in the NYC area.

qbert,
You might want to check the reseller ratings in regard to xtremeshopper before ordering. They are rated slightly above dirt level. Just an fyi.

thanks autopilot and guildda
i'm trying to push the gf to go for the wega b/c it's got the 16:9 ratio thingy, but she's hesitant about shelling out a couple hundred more for that tv vs. the toshiba. in any event it's down to those two i'm guessing, please tell her how important 16:9 is as i think she does not fully understand this no matter how much i try to tell her.

it's not only that, qbert, the main thing that is holding me back from the wega, are all the stories (from dvd talk and from others alike) of people who had to go through multiple wegas before getting one that didn't have any problems (like discoloration, picture distortion, white spots on the pictures, etc etc)
if i can be convinced that this isn't a highly recurring problem, i think i would most likely go with the wega (and make YOU shell out the extra $$--- . Don't crap in your pants, I was just kidding!)

The Sony's 16x9 mode is nice, but it depends upon how much time you will spend watching DVDs. I imagine that other TV makers will soon emulate it.
Try and take her to a dealer where she can see a demo of it. You can also do the bribe thing on her, "but honey we can cuddle on the couch and watch movies at home if we get the Sony". This actually works pretty well.
I do have to add that for the additional price one pays for a Sony, the 90 labor warranty coverage is a crime.
