The Flash (2023, D: Muschietti) - S: Miller, Keaton and Affleck

I'm sure everyone's already heard this announcement, but just in case:

http://www.superherohype.com/news.php?id=2345

Blade: Trinity writer/director and Batman Begins writer David Goyer has committed to write, produce and direct a feature adaptation of DC Comics' The Flash for Warner Bros. Pictures, says Variety.

Created by Gardner Fox and Harry Lampert, the Flash first appeared in DC Comics late in 1939. He's the alter ego of chemistry student Jason Peter "Jay" Garrick, an aspiring athlete whose exposure to heavy water fumes gives him the ability to move at incredible speeds.

"'Flash' is my favorite of the properties," said Goyer, "I think the character of the Flash, who moves faster than the speed of light, opens itself up to rich cinematic and story ideas."

Superherohype implies that it will be Jay Garrick to don the Winged Helmet instead of Barry or Wally. Not sure if I buy this since, while popular among comic fans, his costume doesn't lend itself to cinematic interpretation all that well. Plus, Cinescape.com made no mention of which Speedster it would be.

Heavy water is just regular water with two extra neutrons (one for each hydrogen). It's important for nuclear power plants. In this day and age, I'm not sure how you can justify a chemistry student being exposed to stuff like that.

I would prefer the Wally incarnation of Flash but either way, it would be interesting to see Hollywood's interpretation of the Flash

Goyer can be a brilliant writer, I'm as big of a comic book fan as there can be, & I love the Flash. Yet this is one movie I could care less about. It just doesn't translate well to film.

If he's as funny as the Flash on JLU, I'd be happy.

That's the tricky question. Would a flash movie work better with Wally or with Barry? Please WB don't make it an Impulse movie and use bart like they did with Smallville.

Here's a good interview with David Goyer. He talks a bit about The Flash, and a lot about what a pain in the ass Wesley Snipes is.

The Flash carrying a movie is akin to them making a video game based solely on Aquaman

After working together in Blade Trinity, I would hope Ryan Reyonlds might play the Flash. I know silver age fans loves Barry, but he didn't have a lot of personality, Wally is much easier to relate to.

EDIT: That moviehole interview says it will be Wally West, and Goyer mentions he would love Reynolds for the part.

No, you see the difference is the flash is actually a good hero. He carries a monthly just fine and has one of the best writers now making it a shit lot more interesting. Not to mention he has a rouges gallary that is filled with decent villians.

Aquaman on the other hand is a superhero that is very powerful in 75% of the world yet the 25% that has all the problems he has little to no powers on.

It would be a bit harder to give him an origin if they use wally. A lot of what Wally's character is, is him trying to live up to the image of the flash that barry created.

You're not giving him a fair shake. I'm not talking about Dude, Where's My Car Seann William Scott; more of the Scott from The Rundown or Stark Raving Mad. He has excellent comic timing and knows how to act. At his age, build and looks and with his style, he'd be perfect.

How quickly we forget that the best part of Goyer's own Blade Trinity was a ripped, cocky action man whose biggest role had been Van Wilder. Be not so quick to judge!

If Ryan Reynolds was up for anything, he should play Fletch...

I would go see the movie in a "Flash", how about both Barry and Wally. They could both get hit at the same time by the lightning bolt.

That will be interesting to see how they decide who's Flash and who's Kid Flash.

Simple matter is Barry has Professor Zoom. That in itself would fuck'n rock.

All it takes is a good script, regardless of the character.

That's a pretty generic cop out to a question on how they would explain his origin. Give him barry's origin and back story? or give him Wally's kids flash back story? it's all about how to go about it.
