GLOW tells the fictional story of Ruth Wilder (Alison Brie), an out-of-work, struggling actress in 1980s Los Angeles who finds one last chance for stardom when she's thrust into the glitter and spandex world of women's wrestling. In addition to working with 12 Hollywood misfits, Ruth also has to compete with Debbie Eagan (Betty Gilpin) a former soap actress who left the business to have a baby, only to be sucked back into work when her picture perfect life is not what it seems. And at the wheel is Sam Sylvia (Marc Maron), a washed-up, B-movie director who now must lead this group of women on the journey to wrestling stardom.

I remember GLOW from the 80's; that was that some bad fake wrestling. Of course, who watched it for the wrestling. With Alison Brie, I will definitely check this out for some laughs.

I want to like this. But the trailer screams girl power power hour rather than funny dramedy about female wrestling.

I was too young then to remember much of the wrestling content. But I did remember that GLOW stood for Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling from ads.
Might check it out if there is nothing better to watch.

The mid to late 80's big hair is one of the worst styles of any era.

Jenji Kohan means the first few season will be good before it goes off the rails.

Why can't any of the cable channels pick up shows like this and everything is on Netflix now?

Hell yeah it's cheaper. Cut the cable years ago. Between Netflix, my movie collection and free library rentals I don't miss cable one bit.

Also, Netflix is very willing to engage artists on passion projects. Look how many Netflix originals feature their main stars as executive producers. It's very low risk / high reward for everyone involved. Also, HBO still makes a majority of producers go through the traditional pilot to pitch model. Reed Harris & co green light most shows through the pitch alone. This is why they've become a first pitch destination. With how over-saturated we are with entertainment options more and more production houses are going to become Netflix exclusive in the next decade.

I think it could work in a League of Their Own type way, but from the trailer I was getting more of a slightly delusional "pornstars are empowered women" vibe.

I've watched the first two episodes and find it mildly entertaining. None of the characters are standouts yet. Alison Brie naked in the first episode was a welcome surprise.

Just finished the first episode. Didn't realize they were so short at around 30 minutes. Brie's quick nudity was unexpected but nice

Well, time to watch this since Brie has nudity.

I thought the first ep. was pretty decent, not the "girl power" the promo conveyed. The acting was good, the storyline original, but man it's really hard now to like the main character since
