12 Monkeys (SyFy) -- Season 3 Thread -- 5/19/17 through 5/21/17
Syfy today announced that it has renewed critically-acclaimed original series 12 MONKEYS for a fourth and final chapter ahead of its Season 3 premiere. The network also announced that the series' entire 10-episode third season will premiere over three consecutive nights, from Friday, May 19 to Sunday, May 21 from 8-11PM ET/PT. The first four episodes will premiere on Friday, with three episodes airing each night on both Saturday and Sunday. Produced by Universal Cable Productions in association with Atlas Entertainment, the beloved drama, developed by Terry Matalas and Travis Fickett ("Nikita"), is based on the 1995 Golden Globe(R) award-winning film of the same name. Said co-developer, showrunner and executive producer Matalas: "Universal Cable Productions and Syfy have given us the opportunity to tell an ambitious, emotional story with a beginning, middle and an end - if not always in that order. I couldn't be more grateful for their faith and support. Like our fans who may want to turn their clocks ahead to see what we've got in store, I only wish I could turn mine back to relive this incredible experience over again."
4 episodes air on Friday, 3 on Saturday and 3 on Sunday.
Make sure you all have enough DVR space and no conflicts.
There are no re-airs!!!

I can make it work for every night but Sunday, which makes me wonder if I should bother at all. The series was kind of at the point of diminishing returns for me.

I don't pretend to understand the nuances of TV production and programming, but I fail to see how this distribution model works well for anyone. If you have a DVR, you have to have a ton of free space and no recording conflicts all weekend. If you don't, you have to give them your entire weekend. It's totally obnoxious and I can't see how it benefits Syfy either.

I had a hard enough time following S2 after the long break after S1. I don't know if I'm going to bother.

The episodes could appear on the SyFy app. But, we don't know how many they will keep at a time and how long they will keep them.
And season 3 probably won't be available on Hulu until 2018 before the final season begins. Season 2 was just posted on Hulu a few months ago.
I know airing all 10 episodes in one weekend is kind of obnoxious as not everyone can watch this show right away and some of you are still backlogged on your DVRs and struggling to free up enough DVR space.

In case there is a fan of the series that doesn't check the Streaming forum, there is a VUDU Mix & Match deal where you can buy three Digital HD items (movies and TV seasons) for $14.99 total. It includes the Movie and the first two seasons of 12 Monkeys.

Ratings had gotten pretty bad for season two despite its fanbase still loving the show.

I don't understand the strategy, either. From the outside it looks like Syfy is dumping this third season due to contractual obligations. Like they had to air it or lose something of real value.

I had gotten to the point where I couldn't make myself want to watch this show any more, and just let episode after episode accumulate on the DVR. Before finally purging and deleting the series record I skimmed through the episodes to see if the show seemed to get any better, but it just got more ridiculous. The story was an indecipherable mess that made time travel seem stupid and boring. I had completely lost interest in the show.
But now they are airing the full season in a couple days and know there is a series end date going in. Maybe this will inspire them to come up with a decent story that seems to go somewhere and makes sense instead of the wildly lurching chaotic nonsense that made it seem like the entire writing staff was fired after each episode.

So is this show worth a second chance? I only watched the pilot back when, and while not bad, it didn't immediately hook me...
I'd love a new sci-fi/suspense show to watch, since Person Of Interest unfortunately didn't scratch that itch for me...

Who is going to syndicate this? Also, it's not true that no other network has done this. TBS did it with the first season of Angie Tribeca just last year, and all reports are, it was a smashing success for them.

Syndication means squat now unless you're a procedural or comedy.

I am aware there have been complaints that 12 Monkeys' densely serialized storytelling and backstory were troublesome to new viewers.

No, TBS aired the entire 1st season of Angie Tribeca over the course of one night. They then reaired them later on in a weekly fashion

Complex series work best for binging but this doesn't make sense to me. It's not as if SyFy has a bunch of shows on the docket. The summer shows won't start for six to eight weeks. What are they airing until them?

Current Comcast customers don't have to worry about watching it live or dvr, they can watch the episodes at leisure. The only way to fwd commercials is with dvr though.
Also the first 4 episodes are commercial free.
"Want to watch 12 Monkeys? Sign up with Comcast and watch the first episodes commercial free."
This is what I though would happen when AT&T acquired whichever movie studio they acquired. To watch that studios movie on your phone you had to have AT&T phone service. Hasn't happened, yet.
I don't think it's farfetched for companies that own the programming and a delivery system to go proprietary with the shows/movies they own.

Like I said earlier, the episodes should be available on the SyFy app and SyFy on demand. But we don't know how many will be kept at a time and for how long.
