If it is about the opium addicted last ten years of his life I'd watch it. That's if they stick to the timeline from the last movie that's all that's really left. His students were embarrassed for him and basically was just there as a figurehead.

I enjoyed the third one but in a different way from the previous. Outside of the cash grab in bringing Tyson along for a glorified cameo, it had a really good and interesting story. If they do the last ten years timeline like someone else suggests, that would be the right way to go. It would close the book so to speak and we wouldn't have to worry about other Ip Mans (with Donnie Yen anyway). Then I would be okay with buying a quadrilogy set of some sort and trading in my 3 singles. (I'm so glad I didn't get the trilogy steelbook, but I did purchase the 3 of them in a digital 3-pack)

The Ip Man craze has almost completely dried up. I don't know why Donnie is wasting his time with this. He doesn't have many years left of being able to perform at such a high level. Ip Man 1 was good. 2 sucked. 3 was ok. I think the only possible way they could get me to watch part 4 is if they brought back a legendary movie fighter that I haven't seen in a movie for many years like Hwang Jang Lee or Billy Chow.

They do well enough in Asia. All 3 have good to great fight sequences. And all are moderate box office successes. For me, these are much better then what we get from Hollywood when it comes to old school action. And more Donnie Yen is always a good thing.

I can't agree with part 2 having good fight scenes. I know this movie is generally well loved, but I just hate wires so much. The wires bugged the hell out of me in 1 and 3, but in part 2 it is completely out of control.

Yen also said on his Facebook page that production will begin next year. Depending on when it's shot, this could be a mid-late 2018 release. Unlike American movies, HK movies are usually turned around after principal photography in a relatively short amount of time.

I agree. In part one they kept it to a minimum with the other actors using wire work. Donnie pretty much kept the Wing Chun choreography on a realistic level.

In the upcoming ‘Ip Man 4’, Donnie Yen will be reprising his signature role as Wing Chun grandmaster Ip Man. He will also be co-producing the film with Raymond Wong.
The fourth film will see Ip Man travelling to the US Chinatown after Bruce Lee upset the local people by setting up his own fight school and teaching Westerners martial arts.
Wilson Yip, director of the first 3 films in the popular franchise, will be again at the helm. Yuen Woo-ping will be choreographing the action.

Well Ippin' 3 never happened as well, but I liked that enough. I'm fine with Yen running with the character and doing stories like this. Maybe Ippin' 5 he'll go after a DC character or something.

Updates: Ip Man 4 starts filming in April. Here’s a hint of what you can expect from one of the film’s plot devices: “I spoke with director Wilson Yip on the phone, but I’m not clear about all the details of the movie. I can only say that in the new movie, Ip Man will be looking for [his disciple] Bruce Lee in the United States”, said Donnie Yen (via JS). There’s currently no indication that Danny Chan Kwok-kwan (The Legend of Bruce Lee, Ip Man 3) will be back as “Bruce Lee” for Ip Man 4.
