Elaine, a beautiful young witch, is determined to find a man to love her. In her gothic Victorian apartment she makes spells and potions, and then picks up men and seduces them. However her spells work too well, and she ends up with a string of hapless victims. When she finally meets the man of her dreams, her desperation to be loved will drive her to the brink of insanity and murder. With a visual style that pays tribute to Technicolor thrillers of the 1970s, THE LOVE WITCH explores female fantasy and the repercussions of pathological narcissism.
Did anyone see this? Interesting flick, man... The production value here is amazing. Really felt like a film out of the 70s. The main actress is gorgeous.

I don't know if I would drop the coin for the disc. It's Oscilliscope, so it is pretty pricey. I just rented it on Netflix disc. You can rent it on Vudu for a decent price: http://www.vudu.com/movies/#!content...The-Love-Witch

I used to be in contact with the director, Anna Biller, when I was programming our local film festival 9 or 10 years ago. She had just made her second feature, Viva, and I'd heard good things about it and wanted to show it at the festival. She said, in the nicest way possible, that it probably wouldn't go over well in Mississippi, but she sent me a copy to see what I thought. And, yeah, she was most probably right--it would probably have been a little too out there for the usual audience for our film festival. We tried to work in a midnight showing, but our venue didn't want us to do it...so we didn't.
I really wish we could have gotten Viva into the festival and gotten Anna here to talk about it. She's one of the most down-to-earth, genuinely nice filmmakers that I met during my years with the film festival. I hope that The Love Witch brings her a lot of new fans.

I feel like I may have seen Viva back in the day. I don't remember though. 10 years ago I was watching so many things, it's a blur. I would definitely seek it out to watch though based on the work here.

After seeing this, I would LOVE to see more from Anna Biller. I'm still thrown off by the use of cell phones in this though (Contemporary cars for a tight budget, I can understand)

Well, it does take place in modern times...atleast that was the impression that I got. It was a bit odd though.
