Re: The Nintendo Switch Thread - Presentation on Jan. 12th

Urgh.

Starting when the game launches on 3rd March, players will be able to purchase an Expansion Pass for £17.99/€19.99, granting access to two new sets of downloadable content for the game when they become available later this year. Immediately upon pre-purchase or purchase of the Expansion Pass, three new Treasure Chests will appear in the game’s Great Plateau area. One of these Treasure Chests will contain a shirt with a Nintendo Switch logo which Link can wear during his adventure, exclusive to the Expansion Pass. The other two Treasure Chests will deliver useful items. The first content pack is scheduled to launch this summer and will include the addition of a Cave of Trials challenge, a new hard mode and a new feature for the in-game map. The second content pack will launch in Holiday 2017, and adds new challenges that will let players enjoy a new dungeon and a new original story. The Expansion Pass will be available for both the Nintendo Switch and Wii U versions of the game and are identical. Content packs cannot be purchased individually.

Re: The Nintendo Switch Thread - Presentation on Jan. 12th

Standard practice nowadays. I don't see the problem unless the standalone game is light on content - and I highly doubt that will be the case with the new Zelda.

It's worth noting that when N finally jumped on this bandwagon, with MK8, the DLC was well worth the price.

Keeping a "hard mode" behind an expansion pass seems pretty shitty.

They also rarely discount DLC except sometimes at the very beginning. Heck they rarely discount their games at all.

Especially one where you can't skip that half of the pass. That first DLC pack sounds more like pre-order fodder...in other words, crap. Guess it was only a matter of time before Nintendo started pulling modes out of games for extra money.

At least Link still doesn't talk. Don't want to ruin the aesthetic and atmosphere of the game.

On this note, does anyone else think the font they seem to have chosen in-game is very un-Zelda and distracting?

This is a perfect example of a discussion on why Nintendo games would benefit on other consoles. Their hardware limitations absolutely kill huge open world games like this. It is what it is I guess.

Yeah, it didn't look like an N64 game but that engine definitely can't handle draw distance.

ZELDA: BREATH OF WILD WII U VERSION SEEMINGLY LEAKS ONLINE

It's dangerous to go alone.

BY JOE SKREBELS

The Wii U version of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild appears to have leaked online, with details - including possible story spoilers - now appearing across the internet.

Seemingly beginning on 4chan, public forums such as Twitter, NeoGAF and the Zelda subreddit now have growing numbers of posts featuring unannounced details, plus attempts to prove the leak is real.

From our research, some elements of the leaks appear to be genuine, while others can't be verified at this time.

What we will say, essentially, is be careful if you'd like to experience the game fresh upon its March 3 release.

Previous major releases have seen trolls set up Twitter bots that send story spoilers to those tweeting associated words about the game/movie in question, while comments sections - including IGN's own - have had spoilers posted.

There's not long to go now - stay safe, friends.

The Verge - http://www.theverge.com/2017/2/24/14...switch-preview

Engadget - https://www.engadget.com/2017/02/24/...-wild-preview/

Gamespot - http://www.gamespot.com/articles/zel.../1100-6448172/

The game sounds like it's fairly difficult, but the previews all seem positive. Looking forward to it.

Re: The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild (March 3, 2017 - Switch/Wii U)

If this is accurate, performance on the Wii U seems rough compared to the Switch.

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost...postcount=7354

Rough translation :

Strictly talking about the tutorial area :
Strong aliasing
Worse sharpness
Serious framerate drops
Visual issues with cutscenes and when getting out of the inventory
Too many actions (using a power+rotating the camera = "framerate death"
5 sec loading time when you get back to the Home menu
He installed every patch available
The plateau on Switch is bad framerate related and it gets better after, but in the plateau it's nowhere near what the Wii U version is

Re: The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild (March 3, 2017 - Switch/Wii U)

So the Edge magazine review has been out a few days - it's a 10 in an issue which also reviews Horizon PS4 as a 9.

They played both versions and while they don't go into great detail, the Wii U version sounds perfectly workable.

I'm excited. Just hope I can find a copy in-stock at a local Target to take advantage of next week's B2G1.

This also got a perfect score from Famitsu, only the 24th game to do so.

New comparison video that is apparently showing the final Wii U version and the Nintendo Switch version:

Waiting for a full Digital Foundry comparison, but feeling pretty good about having a Wii U kicking around now.

Don't think I have seen the word masterpiece and best game of all time thrown around as much for any other game before
Huge majority of reviews give a 100 score, but this quote from Giant Bomb resonates with me the most as a 37 year old

Giant Bomb Mar 2, 2017
100
This sense of wonder is something that I haven’t felt so strongly since I played A Link to the Past when I was seven years old. Ocarina of Time was able to capture some of that same magic in my teenage years. Now that I’m in my thirties, I don’t think that I expected it to be possible for a game to make me feel like that again.

I have to admit that I'm relatively late to the Zelda party. I'm 38 and had been around these games all my life, but I didn't own one until Twilight Princess for the Wii and didn't play one all the way through until the remastered Wind Waker on the Wii U. I'm excited beyond all belief for Breath of the Wild. Cannot wait until tomorrow. Too bad UPS delivers in the very late afternoon in my neck of the woods; it's going to be a long, long Friday till then.
