The Original Basement Tapes is my favorite Dylan album and Top 5 album for me. Didn't have to think about getting this. Clips sound fantastic.

Spoiler:

Just got this in the mail today. I'm overwhelmed by the package. I can't wait to dive in and get lost in the Basement.

Amazon has this for $119. That's still $20 per CD. Totally overpriced but I need to have it at some point.

Ugh. I used to own the original release, and it was one of the Dylan albums I really didn't like at all.

This is a very impressive set. Packaging includes an advertisement for a new Bob Dylan album, "Shadows In The Night", coming out in 2015.

It never topped my list either. But "Another Self Portrait" showed that these things best the originals.

Yeah, I loved Another Self Portrait. Am getting ready to dive into this one shortly. These Bootlegs never disappoint.

The iTunes version became available last night around 9:30 my time along with Neil Young's new album Storytone. Really digging both and can't believe I am getting to finally hear the Complete Basement Tapes after all these years of reading about them. "New" Pink Floyd coming up too and the Bruce Springsteen remasters Great time to be a fan of old geezer music.

Not when you're strapped for cash . Didn't hear about the Boss remasters.

Damn, I should've waited a little on this. Never expected it would go much cheaper given past sets. Anyway, Best Buy has it for around $83.00 if anyone is interested:

It is a no-brainer at that price. One of the best box set releases of all time.

Re: Bob Dylan's Complete Basement Tapes finally get official release

Digging up this old thread to say I recently spent half a day listening to this entire box set in a row...and it was absolutely exhilarating. I've been a Dylan fan for years but recently I've gotten more into him than ever before, and I've really come to appreciate the breadth and depth of his musical knowledge. When just about everyone else was figuring out how to mutate blues into different forms of rock, Dylan was all over the musical map. The only other American band of the time that was anywhere near as close to being as adventurous was The Grateful Dead, and even they couldn't hold a candle to Dylan's mastery of musical styles. Blonde on Blonde is just a cavalcade of Americana, and the Basement Tapes one ups that album in the best way possible.

The Basement Tapes is essentially a primer on American roots music. It's astounding.

If I ever take a road trip across America, the Basement Tapes box set would be my soundtrack. It's mystical in approach and execution. I would recommend getting Bootleg Series Vol 10. as a companion piece if you don't already have it.
