The Blacklist: Redemption (8 episode spinoff with Tom Keen's character) will likely fill the void when this goes on midseason hiatus.

Wasn't as good as I hoped it would be.
Sure, Red is ruthless... but some of the pacing was off and the two "hardened criminals" kidnapping Tom and Liz Jr. were more "keystone cop" than "organized crime."
But Red is Red, which saves the show in spite of itself.

Thought it was a good start. IMO it felt a little edgier than a standard episode of the show. Especially the scenes with Tom locked up in the trunk and the murder of that Cuban cop.
I like Ulrich Thomsen as this potential new baddie. He was great on Banshee.
at the scene when Red offered that reward for info about Liz to those corrupt cops and shot up the place when each one tried to pull out their guns.

Mediocre premiere. Still enjoy the show though as I thought last season was really good.
But the baby surviving the car wreck? Yea right

I'm dreading this becomes a redux of season two, where the show became listless and dull. With the spin-off likely sucking away creative talent behind the scenes, I don't have high hopes for this season.
This whole thing about the man claiming to be her father could end up taking the show down the wrong path.

It seems like most people think the show is at it's weakest when it's procedural Blacklister of the week. It seems like they're continuing the arc that season 3 ended on. "Esteban" was never referenced in the episode as one of Red's Blacklisters.
And I think the procedural element that seasons 1 and 2 followed has now changed drastically since Liz can no longer be an FBI agent again.
I am curious to see how Ryan Eggold will segue to the spinoff. He's supposedly going to do both shows.

I thought that part was just absolutely ridiculous. All the adults were dazed and disoriented from the impact trauma, some even sustained injuries, yet the baby was perfectly fine?
Regarding Esteban, he was referred to as a blacklister when Reddington was getting Cooper to send reinforcements to Cuba, as well as in the conversation with Panabaker when she was really pissed about having to deal with Reddington and his list again.

But still I don't think Esteban was really the focal point of the episode as one of Red's Blacklister. Everyone was focused on finding Liz, the baby and Tom.

I am getting bored with this show. It just all seems so stale.

I was concerned that the new story Liz's dad story line would be a tough sell. But so far, so good.
If anything is bothering me it's the strife over Liz faking her death. Like they haven't seen the concern for her family's life payed out in front of them.

The line Red used when her real/fake father was complaining of how he didn't get to raise her Red simply said: "She wasn't yours to be raised" was pretty telling I thought.

Re: The Blacklist (S4E02) -- "Mato" -- 9/29/16
Mato ended up being a pretty insignificant Blacklister other than crashing into Red's car last week. Just a forgettable villain of the week.
Wow, poor Mr. Kaplan....until they teased at the end that she was still alive.
Is it just me or has Red become much more of an asshole? I liked the character for his snarkiness and sarcasm, but now he's become quite full of himself. I get he was pissed, but I think executing Mr. Kaplan for helping fake Liz's death was way too extreme. She and Dembe were pretty much his only two confidantes.
Interesting to see Liz remember a little from her past.
I can't see Red and Liz going back to the way things were back in the 1st 2 seasons.

It doesn't look like the original formula for the Blacklist is coming back. I think it was good to remind audiences that Red is a heartless villain that only seems to care about Liz.

Re: The Blacklist (S4E02) -- "Mato" -- 9/29/16
Agreed. I like him as a bad guy with a soft spot, not a misunderstood guy. I'm OK if he has a bit of a code, but he's not a good guy. The more they made him a good guy, the less believable it was that he'd have the tentacles he does and have survived as he has.

Wow...this one was brutal. But agree we needed to see the heartless Red. I have not idea where this is going but looks like it will be a interesting ride...

Much better episode this week.
Moving the story along... some intense things going on! Almost back to form, except for the lousy CG in the "lost at sea" scenes.

Yeah definitely better than last week. They went a little more into Liz's mom and the relationship she had with Red.
Hope we see the revenge of Mr. Kaplan. Looks like she got shot in the side of her face.
The guy who played Miles McGrath was a regular on Quantico last season. I've seen him on Rosewood the week before. At least McGrath seemed a little more deserving of his rank than the forgettable Mato last week.

Great episode. Now we know the why. I would be surprised if this show allowed Kaplan to take out her revenge on Red, so I'm not sure where that is going.

I think the previews are funny for the next show. They are trying to make keen sound like some badass with the whole scorned mother angle when in my opinion she is the weakest character on the show.

I liked this episode. First one I've liked from this new season.
Miles McGrath actually seemed integral to the Agnes plot, unlike the previous two blacklisters who were pretty weak.
