Harlan Ellison Books Preservation Project

Jason Davis, the editor that's released sixteen all-new Harlan Ellison collections for www.HarlanEllisonBooks.com since 2011, has launched a Kickstarter to preserve all of Ellison's work:
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects...ation-project/

At the end of 2017, I hope to hand Harlan Ellison not just 44 new books (35 reissues, five new volumes, plus the four UNCOLLECTED ELLISONs), but also a hard drive containing the totality of his life's work, ready to weather the ages.

..I’ll be able to take a holistic, big-picture approach to the work that will allow for more efficient and economized process than doing two to four books at a time, as I’ve done in the past.
The rewards so far focus on the 4 new "Uncollected Ellison" editions, which will only be available to Kickstarter backers and those who later purchase the complete 44-volume set. Also, while he's editing all the books at once, they're not going to be released all at once. The release schedule is unclear, although the Kickstarter rewards are set to ship by the end of next year, but some of the titles to be re-issued are currently licensed to other publishers, and so they'll have to wait until those licenses lapse before re-issuing them.

I've backed it because Harlan Ellison is one of my favorite authors. I remember a previous, aborted, attempt to create a single collection of all his works with the "Edgeworks" series that publisher White Wolf backed out of after 4 volumes. I'm hopeful for this new attempt though, especially since the editor at hand already has a track record of editing and releasing several new Ellison collections over the past few years.

Love his work, and am considering the $200 level, but knowing how often I read it'd be a mistake.

Ellison is my favorite living author. I'm all in on this.

Interesting interview about the project:
https://omni.media/to-perserve-a-demon/

I got an email answering some questions about the Kickstarter:
Will backers at the $60, $100, or $150 level be able to choose which one, two, or three volumes of the Uncollected Ellison books the receive?
Yes. I’ll publish the contents of each book before you’re asked to decide which one(s) you want.

Will any of these books be available in hardback?
I hope so. By doing all the editorial heavy lifting ahead of time, I’m hoping a limited-edition publisher will snap up the rights to issue the Edgeworks Abbey Archive in hardback. That said, I am planning to do some R&D on hardcover printing over the course of 2017, so it’s entirely possible that there will be hardcovers directly from HarlanEllisonBooks.com.

Will any of these books be available as e-books?
That’s another distribution venue I am investigating. In fact, I issued my own WRITING THE X-FILES as an e-book earlier this year, just to familiarize myself with the pitfalls of the format.

Do you have a plan in place for executing the project when funding is secured?
Yes. I’ve done five years in Harlan’s files, so I know the general lay of the land, I have access to three detailed reference works that cover the entirety of Harlan’s written output, and I’ve developed a file-management system in my work for other publishers that will help me efficiently tackle the task at hand.

What else has been done to ensure the quality of the end product?
I’ve been learning the Adobe packages PhotoShop and InDesign to allow me greater control over the end presentation of the books.

When will the standard editions of THE LAST PERSON TO MARRY A DUCK LIVED 300 YEARS AGO and BRAIN MOVIES, Volume 7 be released?
The Kickstarter funds should be in hand by the 15th of December and I plan to spend the last weeks of the year purchasing the supplies to tackle the work and getting those two books back into print.

This reached 100% funded today.

Another article on the Kickstarter, although it's more of an overview of the man and his work:
