At this point I'm in until the end. I'm still a little confused by the kumbaya ending of last season though. Hopefully God and his cougar sis play a part in this year.

The boys recently said they hope the show will reach 300 episodes, which would happen sometime in season 14. That would make them IIRC one of the longest running genre shows ever.
I believe they're also under contract through season 13 as of right now.
I'm in until Sam and Dean die in a blaze of glory.

The bosses at The CW have repeatedly said they won't end the show until Jensen and Jared want to stop. That's extremely rare territory...like Newhart or Seinfeld. I've been here since the beginning and won't leave until the end.

Re: Supernatural (The CW) - Season 12 Discussion Thread - premieres 10/13/16
These two talented actors have extraordinary chemistry with one another, of a sort that's all but unheard of (certainly not between two men, at any rate). They love this show and the coworkers, and that love clearly is translated to the screen; they have a solid, fairly sizeable core of incredibly rabid fans who live and bleed all things Supernaturally.
But most of all, this is a quirky horror/fantasy genre show that premiered on the WB (and kids today go, "What's a W and a B?", so long ago has that been!) ages and a day ago. It has survived as it has endured, thriving all the while. It is the longest running such genre show in US broadcast history, a tentpole of this network that they've been able to move around to any night of the week (including Fridays!!!), only to have little impact on ratings. They've moved it - and so very often, usually a different night each season, it seems.
Any, let alone *all*, of these things spell something that would kill most any other show, which makes Supernatural's ongoing success here at year 12 all the more remarkable and something to be particularly treasured by the CW execs at large. No less, for them, it offers them a solid post upon which to try and attract audiences to a new or untested series, something that's of key importance to those in a position such as the CW is in.
Long and short of it is that this show "ain't going nowheres" for some time still to come - just exactly as it should be... Carry on My Wayward Son, Indeed!
(By the by, as a Supernatural fan, my sole hope come Sunday night is 'Negan' turns the bat on himself. Seriously, screw JDM and screw him hard for all but disowning a series responsible for reviving his career. Calling in a couple appearances here or there over 10 seasons wouldn't have been too much to ask, no...? Instead, he literally did just that - phoned in one performance, once.)

This show is very long in the tooth.
I only watched the CW because of our typical guilty pleasure Smallville.
This show has a plan from r us diehards. Has it run it's course? most Def. We watch because we choose to. Cheese and all.
A girl sent me a key chain thing that had two military tags. One was 'bitch' and the other was 'jerk'.
She sent me the jerk one.

I really liked this episode. There were some issues and things that could have been cut and/or improved on. But I'm very happy to get a break from the fun/comedy feel that this show has had for so long.
Most importantly, I felt it was a great way to keep the drama and tension without trying to ratchet up the stakes ever higher as they've kept doing. After last Season there was really no way for them to go bigger, so I appreciate that this episode was more personal on a smaller scale, and so more realistic.

Good start to season 12.
Wonder how long they plan to keep Sam and Dean's mom around (if she survives)
Agree the episode felt a little more personal with stakes involved (rescuing Sam specifically) than the dark humor most episodes have.
I'm quite clear on who this British lady is and what she wants with Sam. The scene with the blow torch on Sam's feet did make me cringe. Surprised he was able to walk.

Good follow up this week. I liked seeing Rick Springfield as Lucifer. It suited him pretty well as the washed up rocker who Lucifer takes the body of.
Sam and Dean's Mom kicked ass beating the shit out of that British lady. Glad they didn't drag out Sam's hostage ordeal.
I have to wonder how long she will stick around. I hope they don't kill her off, but she will totally feel like a 3rd wheel if she is dragged into any of Sam and Dean's missions.

I thought this has been a pretty weak start to the season...
I did like the decayed mouth of Rick Springfield tho.

Not surprised they wrote out Mary Winchester. As I said earlier, she was a third wheel and Sam and Dean don't need to keep looking after her. I'm sure she will be back sometime down the road.
Felt like an old school case of the week Supernatural episode with the evil spirit who was a tortured soul.
Cas: Hello, I'm Agent Beyonce and this is my partner Agent Z
I guess Rick Springfield is gone now since that body is all messed up.

I figured they would do that to Mary, or something like that. It doesn't even feel like something a real person would do as is rather awkward. Reminds me of Flash, same day you get out of jail....I must leave. Just weird.

Kinda weird that three episodes into the new season, and they pretty much dropped every single new thread (Sam & Dean's mom, Lucifer, British Men of Letter) and are seemingly starting with a clean slate. I'm sure those threads will all come back, it's just weird to drop all of them at once. I guess we'll just get some stand-alone episodes for now.

They're trying to reach 300 episodes, which won't happen for 2 more seasons. I don't think they want to blow their load on heavily serialized plots right now. No doubt we'll be seeing a lot more standalone case of the week episodes. I think those are probably the easier episodes for them to script and crank out.

Re: Supernatural (The CW) - Season 12 Discussion Thread - premieres 10/13/16
The episode from this past week was another standalone.
I thought it was okay, but the resurrection of Hitler later got really campy. The character (once he was resurrected) turned into a cartoonish mustache twirling villain.
Didn't like the female co-star. She was kind of annoying.
I did at how much joy Dean got for killing Hitler.
The standalones can be hit or miss. This fell in between.

This week's episode was definitely better than the campiness of the Hitler episode.
It was good seeing Jody again and having the group of hunters get together and attacked by the demon was fun.
Looks like Mary is living on borrowed time with the Reaper ready to take her any moment.

These guys have fought all sorts of boogedies, stood up to Satan, killed death and bitched at God and they have this much trouble with a crossroads demon? Wat.
