I wasn't sure what to expect from the thread title, but those are indeed horrendous. Even worse than the Star Trek II director's cut.

But people would pay hundreds of dollars for those if they were Mondo limited edition silk screened prints.

That Apollo 13 cover can't be real. Please tell me its not real.
If it is I may just have to buy it because it is so awful.

Art for Boiling Point & Violent Cop is horrendous but I'm just happy they're finally coming to Blu.
I'd be even happier if we could get Blu-Rays of Fireworks & Sonatine.

What in the holy hell is that Apollo 13 cover? Please tell me that it's part of some ill-conceived series of covers and that there are more of them out there for other movies.

Those designs are so awful that the project had to be conceived by someone who has no knowledge of what the collecting public desires. At least the Sony steelbook "pop art" releases have a very unique artistic approach to each design. These are just hideous. Send that marketing genius back to the mail room.

Universal Home Video's art department is a joke ... I don't know whether to laugh or cry; Tom Hanks looks like he has a man-gina. I expect a lot more from Film Movement, that too is hideous.

Those Kitano covers remind me of so many comic books (mostly indie stuff, but even some by the majors) that try to disguise an "artist's" fundamental misunderstanding of human anatomy and excessive cross-hatched "shading" with overblown computer coloring. You can pretty easily picture the original black and white art on those and it's very amateur stuff. The colouring reeks of someone being inspired by Shout's often kaleidoscopic cover paintings without really understanding what makes them work.

Umm...these may not be the greatest covers ever (although the Weird Science one is actually okay in my book), but they are far from the worst. In fact, there are so many blu ray covers that are so bland...too numerous to count, that is the worst sin of blu ray covers, that no effort goes into the cover (a point that has been brought up many times in the past on this forum).
At least some of the boutique labels that typically charge a premium for their product try to put some effort into their covers (Twilight Time and Shout are the first two that come to mind).

This
I still have the old R1 DVD releases.
Are you Region-Free? Third Window Films (UK) has released a lot of Kitano on BD this year, including Hana-Bi (Fireworks).

And The Birds isn't bad, either.

The only explanation for that cover is that rather than using a reference photo of Lebrock from the 80s, they used a photo of Lebrock from the 2000s!

Yeah those Hitchcock ones look like the artist realized everything that was wrong with the other ones and did them correctly.
