Master of None - Aziz Ansari Netflix Comedy - Series Thread

Based on the comedic viewpoints of Aziz Ansari, the show follows the personal and professional lives of Dev (Aziz Ansari), a 30-year-old actor in New York who has trouble deciding what he wants to eat, much less the pathway for the rest of his life. Ambitious, funny, cinematic, and both sweeping in scope and intensely personal, Dev's story takes him through subjects as diverse as the plight of the elderly, the immigrant experience, and how to find the most delicious pasta for dinner. Ansari stars in and created the series with Alan Yang; both serve as executive producers alongside Mike Schur (Parks and Recreation), Dave Becky (Louie) and David Miner (Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt). The series also stars H. Jon Benjamin, Eric Wareheim, Lena Waithe, Noel Wells and Kelvin Yu and is produced by Universal TV and 3 Arts for Netflix.

PRINCIPAL CAST INFORMATION:
· Aziz Ansari
· Eric Wareheim
· H. Jon Benjamin
· Kelvin Yu
· Lena Waithe
· Noël Wells

CREW INFORMATION:
· Alan Yang as CRTR/EP
· Aziz Ansari as CRTR/EP
· Dave Becky as EP
· David Miner as EP
· James Ponsoldt as DIR (Pilot)
· Michael Schur as EP

Anyone watching this? It's getting over the top reviews. I binge watched most of the 10 episodes this weekend. Nice if you like hipster dating comedies. I think it's pretty good. The supporting cast is pretty decent. I'd give it a 7/10 so far.

Why the hell is this in scope? It's a freaking TV show! The whole point of scope was to make the screen bigger for theatrical presentations. Here, it just makes it smaller. And scope for what's essentially a sitcom about dating is pretty lame...

Anyways, funny show, worth checking out.

You mean 4K? Not sure what scope is. I think Netflix is doing it's original stuff in 4K to push the upgrade.

This show is great. The "Indians on TV" episode was just amazing.

I just don't get Aziz Ansari casting his real parents as his TV parents. Neither of them can act, but at least the dad seems to bring a little quirkiness to the table. The mom doesn't even appear to want to be there.

I think this show is fucking amazing; on par with Catastrophe and You're the Worst (two other "rom-coms" that nobody else is watching).

It's widescreen with black bars on top & bottom like movies. There is no need for this on a sitcom made for TV, other than to make it look like 'movies'.

I'm loving this so far. I think I'm four episodes in. I was thinking about starting a thread, but figured someone else would eventually.

Amazing Show - the nashville ep is my fave so far.
But all of them are fantastic. Lots of bits from his standup I saw earlier this year, so it's pulled from that and his book, but still great and very well done.

Love the cast, all of them - like how they are all pretty much unknown -except Bob from Bob's Burgers (and Aziz)

Point being, this show ain't Lawrence of Arabia.

I don't get why people are outraged they shot the show in 2.35:1. Does it really matter? Props to them for trying something new in the realm of television. I think the show's cinematography is solid, it makes the show feel cinematic.

The only other show I've seen shot in the ratio was the pilot episode of Onion News Network (oddly enough, directed by The Final Girls' Todd Strauss-Schulson).

Maybe he went 2:35:1 to help disguise his shortness?

Pretty sure his 6'6'' best friend makes him look short regardless of AR.

I bet no one remembers Noel Wells was a cast member on SNL.

He had a funny story on Fallon on how he casted those roles and how he dropped one guy since he did a Indian accent and though he was making fun of his dad lol.

Re: Master of None - Aziz Ansari Netflix Comedy - Series Thread

I knew that I recognized her, but forgot to look her up. I remember how hot she looked in one of those girl videos that they do frequently on SNL now.

I'm four episodes in and enjoy it, but am not totally loving it. I find Ansari borders on annoying a lot of the time, and his friends aren't great either.

Watched 10 minutes and hated it. Maybe I'll try some more later.

I'm probably older than most viewers I imagine and I am a little annoyed at the "hip speak" though I know that's how young New Yorkers speak. But after a few dozen "Yo boo" and "Hey brah", it gets a bit cliched.

Finished it, and found it got better as it went on, although I did hate the way he acted with his girlfriend at the beginning as well. If that's what it's like to date now, I'm glad I'm married and don't have to deal with it.

Re: Master of None - Aziz Ansari Netflix Comedy - Series Thread

I have yet to see a show do such an incredible 180. The first episode I thought was TERRIBLE. The second episode had me hooked in 30 seconds (as soon as I figured out the first gag). I imagine if you gave 90% of comics today unlimited freedom to produce any show they wanted, they would definitely not produce such a sweet and insightful show. Kudos to Asiz for also casting a diversity of people (even though some of them are not so great actors).

Loved it, didn't love the finale, but over all a fantastic show. Well done, and I'm looking forward to series 2.

Binged 5 or 6 episodes last night. Not a big Ansari fan (at least of his standup), but found this very entertaining.

That being said, the last few episodes were pretty blah.
