Movies you're surprised that haven't been released on Blu yet
Mods, if there is another thread like this, please merge. But I looked on several pages and didn't see anything. This isn't a "wish list", just titles that you expected to be released on Blu by now.
I'm surprised these titles haven't been released yet. Most from the 70's. Either box-office hits or critically acclaimed at the time.
"Heaven Can Wait"
"Foul Play"
"The Goodbye Girl"
"Looking for Mr. Goodbar"
"Seems Like Good Times"
"Shampoo"
"Bound for Glory"
"Cinderella Liberty"
"The Last Detail"
"The 7-Ups"
"Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore"
"Paper Moon"
"King Kong" (1976)
"Black Sunday" (1977)
"Harry and Tonto"
"Going in Style"
"The Late Show"
"The Bad News Bears"
"California Suite"
"Victor Victoria"

Not a movie, but the tv series Caprica.
1. It's a science fiction show that was shot in HD.
2. It's a spin-off of Battlestar Galactica, which has been released to blu-ray, including two made-for-tv movies.

I assume that we're talking Region A, right? If so:
An official version of Night of the Living Dead (1968)
A Tale of Two Sisters
Ringu
Ju-on
The Little Thief (even a DVD would be great)
The Cook, the Thief, His Wife, and Her Lover
Diva
The 4th Man
The Decalogue
The Crying Game
Any of the Astaire/Rogers musicals
Any of the Val Lewton RKO films
Any of the Marx Brothers Paramounts (I know Universal is currently restoring them, but there's no guarantee that they'll be released on Blu-ray)
Any W.C. Fields film (especially It's a Gift)
War of the Worlds (1953)
Lust, Caution
The Beach (1999)
The Shaggy Dog (1959) / The Absent-Minded Professor (1961) / Son of Flubber (1963)
The Black Cauldron
The Black Hole
20,000 Leagues Under the Sea...hell, almost ANY live-action Disney film made before 1970

The good news for some of us is that stuff like Paper Moon is available in Region B, and King Kong comes in both Region free and Region B flavors. I have the region free French release and I'm 100% satisfied with it.
I just watched the dvd of California Suite the other day. The standard def image was seriously lacking. I am surprised that specific title didn't get a release at least via Mill Creek. Caine and Maggie Smith seem exploitable given recent high profile supporting work.
Very surprised that Goodbye Girl hasn't come out from Warner in some way.
It only had one release back in the snapper case days and is long overdue.
Compared to Going In Style (which I would absolutely love to see in HD), Goodbye Girl is at least a Rom Com at it's core which should make it easily marketable.
I'm also surprised that Jaws 2 hasn't made it out. I thought for sure they would put it out in 2013 (35th ann) which would have put a years distance between it and the Spielberg original. Kinda shocked actually that they didn't bother, and still haven't.
Also surprised we haven't seen Xanadu. There was an off Broadway musical a couple years back that was getting a lot of press. Would have seemed a no brainer to take advantage of that.
Another blown opportunity by Universal was the 50th anniversary of the Beatles coming to America. They got I Wanna Hold Your Hand out in 2004 for the 40th. I was very disappointed I'm not able to replace that with a HD version.
It's amazing that there are tons of schlock out there. Z grade efforts that almost no one cares about from companies like Code Red. And yet the stuff that was considered basic, Big Studio staples in the VHS and early DVD era are nowhere to be seen.

The Pink Panther films
Man Who Shot Liberty Valance
Sons of Katie Elder
Open Range
Key Largo
I can understand a lot of older fullscreen movies not making it to BD because a ton of that stuff on DVD was from the same 480i masters used for the VHS releases(Universal monster sequels) and they don't want to fork out the money for new HD masters.

I don't think it's surprising, the lesser known cult favorites are not going to command higher licensing fees and the labels that are releasing know they have a rabid fanbase for titles like that. The "classic" films may be considered classics, but will they really be big sellers? The smaller labels know they'll sell a smaller amount and set their expectations accordingly. The big studios are all obsessed with big numbers within the first week of sale.

Re: Movies you're surprised that haven't been released on Blu yet
There's been a region-free release for a pretty long while overseas, but Warner is finally giving it a domestic release on October 13th.
Roman Holiday is near the top of my "where's the BD?" list. There are plenty of movies I'd like to see on Blu-ray but get why they're not out there yet -- is anyone but me really chomping at the bit for Josie and the Pussycats? -- but Roman Holiday is pretty inexcusable. I really thought we'd have Ghost World by now too.

Re: Movies you're surprised that haven't been released on Blu yet
I realize that distribution has changed, but that doesn't prevent Warner Archive, the Sony MODs, Fox MODs, or Universal MOD dvds from making semi forgotten mid tier studio product viable on that format. I'm not quite sure what their rationale is for not doing something similar with a format that is, by it's nature, more of an enthusiasts format (meaning a greater % of it's owners will likely pay to get what they want).
But then, I have no problem with the Twilight time model-as long as they release something I'm anxious for.
I'm a fan of quite a lot of schlock too, so I wasn't really knocking that. It's great that so much limited interest material has been released. It just seems that the balance is seriously out of whack.

I think there's a German import of 13th Warrior but it's got forced subs, which is why I don't have it.

Just to clarify- I wasn't talking about big studio summer tentpole stuff like Abyss or Tue Lies. I was talking about more titles along the lines of what the original poster listed- Harry & Tonto, Foul Play, Shampoo, etc.

Terrible movie, but really surprised Starsky & Hutch (Stiller/Wilson) didn't get a US release...
