Blood Red by Jason Bovberg (apocalyptic fiction)
If I remember right, there are some zombie and other post-apocalyptic fans here on the boards, so I thought I'd mention Blood Red by Jason Bovberg. (Full disclosure: he's a member of these boards and a friend of mine, although I don't know when he was here last.)
If this were the typical zombie fiction I probably wouldn't bring it up here. But these reanimated corpses aren't the typical zombies that we've seen a million times, so I thought some of you might want to check it out. These monsters are creepy in a way I wasn't expecting, and there were more than one scene that made my skin crawl.
I was also impressed by the tough female lead. She feels real. She's your normal, average teenager who's thrust into turmoil when her world starts to fall apart around her and the dead start to walk (if you can call that spooky-as-hell crab-like scampering a walk).
Here's a book trailer you can check out if that's your thing:

Thanks guys! Exciting times. I'd love it if you liked my Facebook author page, and added BLOOD RED to your Goodreads list.
Oh, and check this out. Here's the above trailer with an all-new professional sound mix. Interesting to compare:

Thanks for the bump on this. I had added it to my Goodreads "To Read" list but hadn't gotten around to getting the book yet.

Re: Blood Red by Jason Bovberg (apocalyptic fiction)
I read an early copy of the DRAW BLOOD, the sequel to BLOOD RED. It comes out early next year. I was impressed how Bovberg took the story to some unexpected places. And the ending sets the stage for an exciting final volume. So if you read the first book, be on the look out for it next year. And, for what it's worth, if you haven't read it, the Kindle version is one sale for only $3.99.

Cool... I just downloaded to my Kindle app. I've been trying to figure out what to read next; might as well support a fellow DVD Talker!

Picked up 'Blood Red' today for .99
Had it on my wish list for awhile and hadn't gotten around to pulling the trigger - and though it sounded like a bargain at 5.99 I couldn't resist a buck!
Looking forward to it!

Although I like this thread (and bought the book), I wonder if it is legal according to DVDTalk's rules. Thought that we were not supposed to post anything which could be construed as advertising for ourselves. If one person can make a post like this and then get input from the actual author, then can someone please make a post about one of my books so that I too can post some of the wonderful reviews of it and show screenshots of it and so on?
I am hoping that Benedict himself will step in here and make a comment on this to clarify.

I read Blood Red a couple of months ago. Quite enjoyed it. Other than a small twist at the end, it would hold up well as a stand-alone novel.

FunkDaddy J, if you don't mind my asking, did you self-publish your books or go the traditional agent/publishing house route? I'm just curious (and currently working on a novel and don't really know which publishing direction to go).
My apologies in advance if this is a taboo subject or something that can't really be discussed on these boards.

Hey big e, BLOOD RED was published by Permuted Press last year--a small press specializing in apocalyptic horror. If you want to chat more about the process, send me a PM. Thanks!

I just read the sequel to Bovberg's book, DRAW BLOOD. This trilogy is shaping up rather nicely. For those who liked the first one, you should consider book 2. Based on that ending, I think book 3 will be pretty intense!

I just saw that the first book in the series is only 99 cents today. If you have a Kindle and have been toying with checking it out, today's the day.
Blood Red by Jason Bovberg.
Now we just need him to publish volume three.

Re: Blood Red by Jason Bovberg (apocalyptic fiction)
Thought I'd bump this, I finished the first book and am currently about a third through the second one. These books are a very entertaining new take on the zombie genre, and I also really like "mystery" aspect, during the really odd particular things that are taking place, the reader is wondering right along with the characters what the hell is going on and why. I'm really enjoying these and flying right through them.
I have a feeling that I'll want to jump into the third book as soon as possible once I'm done the second one, so Jason, can we expect that one soon? (I hope!)
