Best Chill Out Albums of All Time?

I have spent a lot of time in recent years listening to both the Angel Trance Chill and the Global Underground Electric Calm albums. All really amazing chill out albums. Just wondered what albums others have liked and would recommend as being the best out there.

I still love Enigma. Wish he'd put out a new one.

Also love BT's This Binary Universe.

Aphex Twin is a great choice. The selected ambient works are really solid.

I have not heard of Klaus Schulze, but checking out that album on Youtube and i am loving it. This is perfect chill out music in my opinion.

Maybe not all time, but I've been enjoying Carbon Based Lifeforms - World of Sleepers quite a bit.

Same here. Hard to believe it's been almost 6 years since the last record. I was hoping since there was only a couple years between the Seven Lives... and A Posteriori that maybe they'd be working more quickly now but no dice.

I'll have to check out the BT record. I've been aware of him for a while but have never heard anything he's done.

Re: Best Chill Out Albums of All Time?

Some of my favorites:

Storm Corrosion - S/T (side project of Opeth and Porcupine Tree main men - NOT metal or rock at all)

<iframe width="420" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/gZOGyzVDxfE" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Love Spirals Downwards - Flux

<iframe width="420" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/5AYvyk2PLI0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Delerium - Karma - (everything from Semantic Spaces on rivals Enigma in quality IMO)

<iframe width="420" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/sAMeXjeswWg" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Jim Matheos - First Impressions (Fates Warning guitarist - instrumental acoustic and strings - very relaxing)

<iframe width="560" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/Gryu3KvnrBc" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Zoar - Cassandra

Re: Best Chill Out Albums of All Time?

I love trance and chill out. I got hooked on the Pure Moods albums a few years ago after finding the commercial for the first one from the 90s on YouTube, and I ended up seeking out the entire series.

After sampling some of the artists on Pandora, I ended up going all over the place and found some really great music.

Amethystium
Isabliss

Mythos
Introspection

Anything by Sacred Spirit:

Re: Best Chill Out Albums of All Time?

It's a greatest hits package of an artist than gets looked down upon by "snooty" jazz types, but this album is audio comfort food around our house:

Give a listen. It's on Spotify.

Laugh if you wish, but I love Enya. Granted, I only have a best-of album of hers, and that's the extent of my exposure, but songs like "Only If" and "Storms in Africa" are gorgeous.

I enjoy her as well. I can only do it every once in awhile, but sometimes I'm in the mood for her.

Re: Best Chill Out Albums of All Time?

I don't know if they're the best of all time but I really like Eddie Vedder's solo material. I'm a big Pearl Jam fan to begin with but Eddie's solo stuff is very awesome too. it's just nice mellow and laid back listening. Both the Into the Wild soundtrack and Ukulele Songs are frequently played by me. I also really like She & Him. Zooey Deschanel is one of the sexiest women in my opinion and I also happen to really like her as a singer. I listen to their albums a lot too.

Glad I'm not the only one, though I feel no shame - nor should I/we - for liking what I like.

This album, one of the all-time greatest, just occurred to me as fitting the subject:
