Scream: The TV Series (MTV) -- Series Thread -- premieres 6/30/15

Ghostface is taking his reign of terror to the small screen.

MTV is developing a weekly series based on the Scream film franchise, TVLine has learned exclusively.

Former MTV execs Tony DiSanto and Liz Gateley, who are shepherding the project under their DiGa production shingle, are on the hunt for a writer to pen the pilot.

It’s unclear what role, if any, Scream auteurs Kevin Williamson and Wes Craven will have in the potential series.

The four Scream flicks have brought in $500 million globally.
Just... No. Dumb. Stupid.

Only way I'll watch this is if Ghostface starts killing off the Jersey Shore cast

I watched Scream 4 for the first time yesterday. I don't much plan on revisiting Ghostface on a weekly basis.

Re: MTV developing Scream TV series

This is such an odd choice of attempting to redefine a franchise.

I can see where MTV is going with their thinking and wanting to develop a similarly themed series to partner with "Teen Wolf" - but 'Scream' just doesn't lend itself to serialized tv, unless they want to go the "Harper's Island" route, but that would only work for a season or 2...

This sounds pretty awful. The movies work but I can't see a series being any good.

Weird choice. I wonder how they plan to structure the show.

Just another reason why I don't watch anything on MTV these days. At this point, shouldn't they change their name because this is not the MTV I grew up with!

13 episode seasons, serialized, hour long? I could see it working. It'll be like The Killing, but not.

I know MTV is no longer in the music video business anymore, but I don't see the problem with them developing scripted shows. This proposed Scream series is only in the discussion faze right now. For all we know it may never get launched. I'd rather see more scripted shows being developed than another Jersey Shore spinoff.

Teen Wolf, which is in season 2, is actually pretty good, but probably doesn't get alot of eyes from alot of the people in this forum because of it being on MTV.

Sounds like a terrible idea, however...

this idea could work.

I had to look up Scream 4. I couldn't remember if I saw it. Clicked through some stills and I think I did see it. Obviously a very memorable flick.

For all we know, it could have as much to do with Scream as Freddy's Nightmares had to its films.

Re: MTV developing Scream TV series

I think doing a serialized season with a Harpers Island/The Killing type of pacing could work, but I hope they don't stick to the same characters and storyline and make it a direct remake. I enjoyed Teen Wolf (I'm trying to catch up on the episodes I missed last season) and a show with that sort of look/tone and a 'small town slasher mystery' plotline might be fun.

Re: MTV developing Scream TV series

At its upfront today, MTV is announcing a pilot order to a series adaptation of the hit horror film franchise Scream.

MTV is working on Scream with the films’ producer, the Weinsteins’ Dimension Films and Tony DiSanto and Liz Gateley’s DiGaVision. The project originally landed at MTV almost a year ago, brought in by former MTV programming topper David Janollari. The pilot green light is suprising, given the fact that there is no specific concept or a writer for the adaptation yet. The network recently met with a number of potential writers but didn’t settle on an idea. Still, MTV has big plans for the project, announcing that the potential series already has been slated for a summer 2014 debut. Dimension is in discussions with the films’ original director Wes Craven to direct the pilot.

Re: MTV developing Scream TV series

Hannibal and Bates Motel clearly pushed them over the edge in regards to making this thing a reality, and if you look at it from that point of view it seems like it could actually work.

I'll give it a shot. Could be interesting.

Now that I think about it, this will probably be like the recently canceled 90210 reboot with the kids getting picked off from time to time.

I agree with you on Hannibal and Bates Motel pushing them over the edge. There were quite a bit of people who thought Hannibal and Bates Motel were going to flop and both shows have received mostly positive reviews. MTV has to really think about how they want to present the show and how pace it. I agree with another person it could be kind of Harper's Island.

Re: MTV developing Scream TV series

Imagine Scream plus an actual mystery with hints building up over 10+ episodes as opposed to the interchangable "we'll film three and pick one later" Scooby Doo endings from the movies. The more I think about this idea the more I like it.

Re: MTV developing Scream TV series

Maybe they'll end the first episode with the revelation that EVERYTHING from the past few years was just a bad dream, then go back to playing music videos!
