But in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Peter Parker finds that his greatest battle is about to begin. It's great to be Spider-Man (Andrew Garfield). For Peter Parker, there's no feeling quite like swinging between skyscrapers, embracing being the hero, and spending time with Gwen (Emma Stone). Is that really the official poster or fan-made? It looks like Spidey with the symbiote...

That second poster confused me at first too I wasn't sure if I had somehow missed that they were involving the symbiote in this movie or if that was an old poster from Spider-Man 3 or what. Hopefully if that storyline is done it's done better than it was handled in the previous Raimi attempt. Also hopefully the symbiote costume is done better than it was previously rather than just the normal costume re-done in black.

Saw it early through a buddy that works at a theater. It had some cool moments but it just didn't do it for me.

Huge spoiler below

Spoiler:
I thought the Gwen Stacy death was pretty brutal though.

Re: The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (Webb, 2014) — The Reviews Thread

I'll reiterate.

The good:
Spoiler:
Fight sequences with Elektro and Harry (he does not call himself the Green Goblin)
Gwen dies. (People in the audience actually gasp, even if you seen it coming.)
Spidey swinging thru the city. Head over heels better than the Raimi films.
Acting still better than the Raimi films, too.

The bad:
Spoiler:

Overly bloated with unnecessary scenes. Most of Aunt May's scenes don't need to be in this.
Necessary scenes that don't pay off i.e. Richard and Mary Parker opening. But nothing happens after Peter finds their hidden lab.
Gwen and Peter go thru their relationship like Lana and Clark in Smallville. Where you had several seasons to be annoyed with it in Smallville, they do it in 2.5 hours. That's too much foreshadowing.
Pacing. The scenes with Gwen and Parker grind the film to a halt.
Too much Max Dillon, not enough Harry Osborn.
If Peter didn't want to give up his blood, they gave him a lame excuse. Had they recut it so that they place the hidden lab scene prior to his refusal, it may have made more sense.

And thinking back on it:
Spoiler:
I might be taking a stab at this, but I don't think Norman Osborn actually died. There's a scene during his eulogizing in which they show his large bed with some type of scanning going on and a nurse standing over the bed. Looks like there's a body there, but it's very secretive.

The test screening running time was about 2:40 and it's now down to 2:22. Could have easily been trimmed even more.

Now down to 58% and just 38% among top critics.

This has all the makings of a giant turd.

Raimi is the man - and rebooting after just 5 years was a selfish disaster move by Sony. Time to give it a rest (but they won't).

So even if AS2 bombs (Well, bombing is doubtful. Underperforming is more like it) they're still going ahead with AS3, Sinister 6 and Venom?

Of course. If they go too long without producing a movie, then the rights revert back to Marvel. Hell will freeze over before Sony lets that happen.

Yeah. At this point Sony and Fox can't afford for Marvel to get the rights back to their properties.

As I said, keep the cast, dump Webb and the screenwriter. Then ASM 3 might be good.

Re: The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (2014, Webb) S: Foxx and Friends

Currently at 56%... which puts it below Spider-Man 3 at 63%.

I'm really thinking about skipping this one now. I liked ASM as an entertaining Spider-Man movie. It wasn't sublime, it really didn't show us anything we hadn't seen before, and despite all of its dramatic aspersions it really hit every superhero movie trope imaginable, but even still it was enjoyable enough on those terms. Solid.

The more reviews I read, the less enthusiastic I get about the project. It sounds like a royal mess.

Re: The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (2014, Webb) S: Foxx and Friends

They really are neck and neck. This has a 6/10 score overall which is roughly a 3 out of 5 average among all critics. Spider-man 3 had a 6.2 out of 10.

This seems to have the same issues as Man of Steel -- but with better non-action scenes thrown in, mixed with overlong, bland action sequences.

Unsurprisingly, Man of Steel also had a 56%

Re: The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (2014, Webb) S: Foxx and Friends

i knew it... this was bad from the beginning. Hence the reason why i wanted Marvel to take back Spiderman and do justice. I will still watch but Sony is just screwing it up with tons of villians

To both X-men and Spider-man's credit, X2 and Spider-man 2 are still imo the best marvel movies out there.

The other entries in both franchises, The Wolverine aside, don't even come close.

Man Of Steel was much more enjoyable than this. Although I haven't seen this movie I did see ASM and I didn't like it and felt like it was an unnecessary reboot. In addition to loving MOS I felt like it was necessary coming off of Superman Returns. I have no desire to rush to the theaters to see this it looks too Batman Forever, Batman and Robin-ish.

Re: The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (2014, Webb) S: Foxx and Friends

Kind of tough to say Man of Steel was much more enjoyable than this if you haven't seen it, though the previews don't instill much hope in me either.

I've fallen asleep everytime I've tried to watch Man of Steel so this doesn't have too far to go to be better, but then again I fell asleep during Raimi's Spider-man as well.

I explained why. I saw the first ASM and didn't like it and this looks worse. It's not that tough for me to say. In other words, ASM2 is going to have to completely blow me away for me to enjoy it more than MOS and there is probably less than 1% chance of that happening.

Any chance means not definitive.

But I agree, as I think this movie looks about as good as Spider-man 3.
