Saints Row 2

The game is set fifteen years after the original, and many areas have changed

Planes and boats will be needed to access some areas
There are now helicopters too

The graphics have been improved, with no more pop-ups as you stroll around

The weather effects are “impressive”, such as heat effects, rain and so on

When it rains, pedestrians get their umbrellas out

Other characters can be used as human shields

If you are being chased, you can shoot your pursuer in the nether-regions.

He will fall to the floor, and other pedestrians will gather round to check on him, thus meaning you can get away that much easier

The “Freak Generator” is the internal name for the new clothing palettes.

Every character in the game can now be customised, so your bros and hoes can be clad out in anything you like

The developers have listened to the wants of fans, and will now include “mini-achievements” for special stunts that occur

You can use limpet mines on cars, walls and even the backs of your enemies
If you decide to car surf this time around, you’ll need to maintain your balance with the analog stick

THQ want to give Volition enough time to finish the game
this time around, so no rushing it out onto store shelves here. With GTA IV on the way, it needs to be damn good

There will now be a co-op mode, by Xbox Live or a local network

The boxout on image four talks of the ability to upgrade and improve the place where you’ll be living

I'm looking forward to it. I thought Saints Row was surprisingly good. Though with GTA IV coming out I don't know how much I'll be interested in playing this.

The game looks like it will look good. I loved the first one. Even though this games takes place in the SAME city, it appears they are upgrading it a lot...so that is good.

I just bought the original with the TRU sale. Any tips for a newbie. I love sandbox games.

Don't cheat if you want achievements.

Also, it took me a while to realize that you can just hit start and save any time you want - you don't have to go to a "safe house" to save, but it'll always load from a safe house.

To get good weapons earlier on, break into the back door of gun shops.

If you want to do the Hitman mini-game, go around to all of the starting points for them and get the list of people needed to kill RIGHT AWAY. Kind of memorize what the people look like. That way when you are cruising around doing other missions, and you see somebody you need to kill, you can just do it and be done (assuming you have the right weapon...which will piss you off to no end if you DON'T have the right weapon and the person is hard to find).

Interesting concept, setting it 15 years after.

Co-op...that sounds incredible.

Get the guide if you can... it's pennied out at Best Buy (meaning it costs 1 penny).

Best advice is to do the hitman missions ASAP (as mentioned above). They're not hard, although finding your victims can be tough.

The reason? Each set of hitman missions completed (there are 3) get you a special weapon that you can pick up for free (unlimited ammo!) at your safehouses. The weapons are more powerful than their standard counterparts, and you'll save a fortune in ammo.

The weapons:
- Gold .44 Pistol (1-hit kill on most enemies) (received after completing all 3 sets of hitman missions)
- Platinum Assault Shotgun
- Platinum SMG
- Platinum rocket launcher (!!)

The Chinatown missions also give you an excellent homie you can call, who has a great car for Pimp missions.

^^ Looks fantastic! It's everything GTA IV wanted to be... let's just hope the controls are tight. I'm LOVING the Lessons w/ Uncle Gary videos.

I just hope that they're not going for so much extra stuff in this game that the gameplay and that sort of thing gets lost in the mix.

I played this a few days ago and it was fun as hell of course

The controls were great, but the graphics are a letdown after GTA IV.

Either way, it's still gonna be better than GTA IV!

You mean you played SR1, right? SR2 isn't due out until next month... and I gotta say the graphics look sweet -- much better than GTA IV IMO.

Yeah, in my opinion, the graphics on GTAIV weren't THAT great.

I played Saint's Row 1 a year ago, and I was impressed with the graphics then. I didn't think GTA 4's were much better, so if they improved on them in SR 2 at all, I'll be fine with it. This game has flown under my radar, and I really enjoyed SR 1. Might not get it right away with RB and GH to play, but definitely before Xmas.

I agree. But i can let the graphics slide since its such a big game that took a long time to make.

I started replaying the first one a couple of days ago and will pick up the sequel next week as part of the Toys R Us deal. The only thing I disliked about the original was having to do those minigames to build up your respect meter in order to progress through the missions. Seemed like a tedious way to extend the playing time of the game. I hope part 2 does away with this.

The original Saints Row was alot of fun, but it doesn't hold a candle to GTA IV.

Even with the 8.2 rating, I am still picking it up this Tuesday. That is as long as TRU has it.

True.

I'll be renting Saints Row 2 to see how it plays. If the gameplay is tight, we'll see about a purchase. Too many games I want are coming out soon, so I've got to pick and choose.

Well I just played for 4 hours straight...fun as hell. The graphics are not as good as GTA IV obviously, but its 100x more fun. I spent most of my time just checking out all the cool new stuff, like streaking, shock paddles, and car surfing etc. I'm gonna try a few of the multiplayer modes tonight with a friend and see how that works out.

So far I would rate the games as follows:

Saints Row 1 - 9.0
Saints Row 2 - 9.5
GTA IV - 8

Don't forget TRU Buy 2 get 1 Free sale. You'll need to buy at least one game out by next week to actually keep. It's down to either Pure or this one for me.
